Yes but as a beginner you do lots of beginner mistakes and you never correct them because you never know better.

Get on some tutorials and reading books.
For gesture I suggest proko figure drawing series, for perspective, D'Amelio and Norlng.

When it comes to proportions supposedly Hale is the best because cranial width and height is the same regardless how you look at it and can be used even at extreme perspective angles.

To fit an arm into a box of 6 for example all you have to do is draw a box and divide it with one of this methods.
