This is what happens when art is allowed to not reflect truths. All of this sterilized, inclusive, bubbly art is honestly sickening, partly because I know why it's come to exist: the artists aren't pushed hard enough to hone their craft in school because of how the schools are incentivize to keep poor performing students on-board, lest the school lose income, so they end up stagnating and making excuses for their lack of progress. They use deconstructionism to tell everyone that what they are drawing is beautiful when you know it isn't. Their defense is always in the name of taste, but I know what I like. I like men and women having sex, or fighting, or at the bare minimum an expression of humanity's innate nature to feel passion. There's no passion in this work though. All of the characters live in these homogenous worlds where every representation of the human experience is equal in number and value. That's not fucking true, though. I pity kids growing up like this. Even when I was young in the early 00's, I would look through textbooks and wonder "why do all of these kids have friends in wheelchairs?" because of how common the trope was in early education material in comparison to how many actual kids in wheelchairs there were at my school. I see the same thing in this kind of art: it tries too hard to avoid conformity and present more queer and uncommon life circumstances as completely normal, but ironically misses the point of what it means to be an individual and creates bland characters that blend in with the countless other queer OC's out there. It doesn't even have to be this way - show queer people struggling with acceptance. Show them facing adversity from bigots. Anything besides them existing in a utopian space. Be fucking honest with your work.

Mark my fucking words: vitiligo is the new wheelchair.
