Probably will get shit on for this, but I think that red noses are fine when done properly and if the artist understands what makes it red.
If it's a stylistic choice to increase bloodflow/saturation, then they should do so to similar areas like the ears/finger tips.

Not trying to start a 'muh style' argument or even defending tumblr nose, I think it's annoying too. But I think it can be done properly, it's exaggeration of a feature, just like exaggerating eyes or any other part of the body. It looks weird if it's the only thing pushed, just like really big anime eyes would look weird if nothing else was pushed.
For instance Will Terrell does red nose correctly (in my opinion), he pushes saturation in other places and not just the nose and it actually makes sense.
I really like hue/tonal variation and I think the problem is that tumblr doesn't know how to do it correctly.
