I see something similar on twitter sometimes. There are popular artists who struggle to draw shoulders or more than one facial expression but still get tons of traction because of their “anime girl with crude lineart and 100 pink overlays” aesthetic. I guess the filters and aesthetic add a cutesy/nostalgic vibe which appeals to a broader crowd in general so it’s more likely to get likes/rts.

Okay, they aren't as hugely popular as I thought they were but they still get a lot of attention on their art and have 1000x more followers than /ic/ could ever hope to achieve.
