Just paint what you see lol. People on this sight are far too obsessed with structuring their work flow over actually doing work. They over-complicate something that they are just learning by adding a completely different means of manipulation on top of it. Painting can be as straight forward as putting a brush on a surface until you like what you see. Mistakes are a natural part of learning to paint because fixing them the hard way is half of practice. Layers are godly in their utility, but I think the convenience of having an option to undo entirely is detrimental to "learning by doing". By physically making something we gain satisfaction and a greater appreciation for or successes. I think this is having a large impact on people's ability to retain interest in their own art. It's also great to have a literal stack of failure close to you, in case your ego ever needs a check.
