This anon knows how to teach himself. The point of the exercise is think about how you use your brush strokes/ brushes to paint.

When you are limited, you have to consider which direction to paint in, how opacity will affect the underlying values, you will deconstruct the object you are painting into segments, and most of all, you are learning to make deliberate, CONFIDENT strokes.

Do the exercise in whatever way will benefit you the most. Five is the number that I saw, so I suggested that. The idea here is to analyse your technique, not make a photo reproduction. With that being said, both of yours look awesome
