My teacher stopped posting online when she found out her drawings were being sold by Chinese souvenir shops, only came back 7 years later when Facebook became viable for to self-promotion.

He might have had a nervous breakdown with something unrelated to art as well, and just abandoned computers.
He might be in jail for something serious (at the very least we know he's a lolicon).
There are also people who seem very hyped about their art but actually hate everything and just want to vanish; I had a friend with 15k followers on deviantart who just deleted everything and started anew with a different alias, even though she seemed to love what she did before. Of course she was "caught" later, but if you change your themes/style, it's possible to blend in.

I'm gonna make a project server soon (for now Inktober is sucking up too much of my time).

The initial project itself will ward off the drama queens and there will be a minimum level of skill required, hopefully making for a rather small, but big enough server with some sort of common interests, views and a bare minimum of skill.
I'm assuming between 10 and 30 people.
