I may be committing artistic mortal sin here, but let's compare with some definitive Renaissance/Post Renaissance artwork.

We have "The Nightwatch" by Rembrandt on top, and forgive me but I do not know the name of this piece but it is by Peter Paul Reubens. Of course, below is a piece by VeraMundis.

There's a bit of a pastel softness to Mundis' work, which makes it quite a bit more different texturally (aside from the obvious character choices as well). However, with the use of epic poses, the frequent use of cloth, smooth skin tones, a balance between lighting and shadows, and a very real, sort of organic sense to his work (a 'soul' you could say), we can see there's a few comparisons here.
