Where did you get this idea that artists never rested their hands on the painting, or something else?

Google "mahl stick". Been in use by the masters since the 16th century. Most likely in use since the beginning of painting.

Do you really think the masters free handed everything, from the elbow? Is this another one of those ridiculous "rules" here, that people made up?

There is nothing wrong with drawing from the wrist, or the shoulder, it's generally a matter of the size of the work you're working on. A large mural will require more shoulder work, but a small panel painting or drawing, is all wrist. It's almost impossible to crosshatch drawing from the shoulder.

I really wonder about this forum, sometimes, I often feel like a group of you are trolling people with unrealistic expectations and standards.
