Asked in /beg/ but didn't get any useful answers.

How do you draw like this? I have practiced loomis and watched proko, both of which demonstrate how to draw facial features using *values*. Not using line work. Yet I see stuff like this on /ic/ constantly, it's very appealing visually and much less effort required to do a simple study. My question is how do you draw the features like this? Every time I have tried it just comes out looking like symbol drawing.

how do you get to this level? pic courtesy of some anon in a previous beg thread, personally I really like it.

I learned loomis and watched proko to get rid of symbol drawing, but they teach you to construct facial features using values/charcoal. So I'm actually totally lost on constructing a face like this using only lines.
