Why do all modern western anime-like art styles look so similar to each other even more than actual anime?

Modern fake anime just doesn't even try to either be fake anime or its own distinctive style like The Boondocks or Teen Titans did.
They have to create this vague, homogenised style that lacks the charm of the things it tries to replicate.

You are right. They look nowhere near like Anime to begin with, yet there's this notion that they should all be lumped in the same instead of having distinction between the two. Remember you have tons of people calling pic related Anime or WANT it to be called as such.

As long as people keep saying something isn't Anime and having this argument ( this thread is proof of that ), there's clear differences between the two. That won't change unless you magically give every western artist 20+ years worth of Japanese media knowledge and experience.

Am I the only one who highly dislike these sort of compositions? Cartoons do them often and it's incredibly boring/ugly to look at. OP's picture is highly detailed but it's hard to see what I'm looking at with everything just blending together as well.

Can we stop pretending that shit like Castlevania and anything else from that same studio looks like anime as well? They look indistinguishable from the average DC animated thing

This art style is mainly a problem when the character designers are using western values as to what their characters should look like. Like the dyke cut girls in the top right and bottom left, stuff that clashes with the anime-leaning look and the obvious influence some of them wear on their sleeves. It's mainly just an action cartoon look but some go too close to anime bullshit and it just doesn't work when you're trying to make a "correct for US demographics" take on anime.

Serious question: would the visual quality of "faux-anime" be massively improved if corporations just gave all story-boarding and animation assignments to japanese studios rather than korean ones like it happened in the 80s and 90s? If you compare something like Cybersix or Little Nemo to pic related, the difference in staging and detail quality is night and day. Not to mention Edgerunners was far more successful than shit like Voltron and the likes, so it might even be a profitable direction to be heading for if western corpos are continuing to outsource.
