The post-ww1 era was an hot bed for experimental art, the idea of the old world and society was shattered due to the trauma of war in a scale never seen, a lot of artists fought in that war and the idea of painting a more introspective and emotional art appealed to them... We tend to forget how mind bogglibg the social change between the roaring 20s and the belle epoche, in a matter of a decade every thing changed, from style, music, way of living and human rights. Communism was also a major driving force in this time, where the idea of art was meant for the people not the rich and available for everyone. Ironic, because modern/contemporary art is one of the most elitist things out there
