keep body proportions in check.
there are a few rules that can help you stay consistent.
- distance from top of head to hips = distance from hips to heels
- tip of fingers of extended arms besides body reach about half thigh, elbows rest at navel height
- extended hand is almost as long as forearm
- vertically lifted arm - elbow reaches top of the head
- etc...
