what are you trying to do is called mechanical perspective. pic related is how you do it. Yours isnt working out because you arent foreshortening depth into respective vanishing points. More details in book

now i should also mention that you dont need exact measurement for 99% of the drawings, you just need very basic / casual understanding of perspective as it is described in books like perspective made easy or even the one from them OP: framed: perspective. trying to use mechanical perspective or measuring points is over kill for your average doodle / study / art.

TLDR try out some darker color oil pencils like blue, red or dark green. They produce whole range of values and basically they mog the normal pencils in almost every aspect but price
