Make sure there's structure underneath the painting. Right now the green side of the jaw is missing, and the green eye is sliding up his face. To more closely match the reference image you'll probably want to push the dark values darker and overall make it more saturated. The textures a cool personal style but you might want to try experimenting with hard and soft edges as well.
