Now this is how hampton construct a face. Look at how simple he starts, just a ball and a "box" for the jaw, then he goes and start sculpting the major planes.

For the beggining you should stick to the ball and box, draw it in different angles, don't put features or any innecesary bs, then when you have it down, then move to the next step.

Features could be complicated if you don't have a grasp of proportions first, stop rushing
