That is a pretty scathing review of Max the Mutt buried in there.

I remember the founding lady of the place used to post on CA.org a lot, advertising her school.

I don't remember ever receiving a single line of code when doing drawing.today which was php (laravel) and javascript (vue.js) despite saying help was welcome, so excuse me if I don't believe the ruby on rails language barrier is what's stopping you. I've never written a line of it myself before doing a few minor things in the dad project, and it seemed perfectly capable of doing what php does with plenty of docs to help you. Javascript is still javascript, there's just very little or none of it in the project as of right now as far as I could see. You should pick up the language pretty quickly if you really wanted to help / make an effort.

While it's absolute ass to write a project in vanilla php v5.6 or earlier without any framework to bootstrap the piece of shit together, it's a perfectly capable language if you know the pitfalls. It has shit performance compared to goLang, ruby or even node.js, but it's still fast enough by anyone's measure imo. ww3.lol is written with the same stack drawing.today was (laravel php and vue.js), and neither have any performance issues (at the start it was bad code/logic making it slow, not the language), or been noticeably buggy. So I don't get the hating on php meme when you're free to start your own project. It's a very easy language to do a lot with quickly. If you've entered some awful 10 year old project at work though I truly feel for you, I was in that position at my first job that I quit after under a year. I mainly write React + Redux and Java at work now which is a dream in comparison.
