What's a good tutorial for shading techniques with a pencil? Like, how to do crosshatching or how to make nice soft edges with a pencil. Basically how to do what I did in the picture but with a pencil.
I know what to look out for in a study (The terminator, occlusion area, bounced light, etc.), I just can't translate it well onto paper because my pencil techniques are lacking

I pretty much started learning the fundamentals of drawing digitally a year ago. I've done a few projects after that but now I want to get back to basics, but this time on paper because I've been told that good skills on paper transfer to great skills digitally. So I want to start doing some figure drawings and still life studies on paper.
Shading techniques on paper don't quite "click" in my mind though. Does anyone have a good tutorial or book purely on shading techniques I can apply?
