Should soft pigment pencils like 8Bs be sharpened to a long point or short point?

What about hard pencils?

Like, I can understand learning basic linear perspective, it's a fundamental skill. But why would you care to learn perspective beyond that? Stuff like auxillary vanishing points, measuring lines, checkerboard measurement, plan projections; what's the point? We live in the age of 3D software. Why wouldn't you just learn how to set up a scene in Blender and use that as a reference? Seems much more practical than all these boomer techniques.

Do you think copying actually makes you better?

When figure drawing instructors emphasize the importance of gesture, are they saying that under the assumption that the learner wants to ultimately become a master painter like the old masters? That's the impression I get.

With anime and especially manga drawings, I don't see the extreme gestural flow or exaggerated curves people like Huston keep rambling about. You mainly see that stuff in old paintings.

Why do online drawing courses get shilled so hard when none of them are even remotely as useful as actual hands-on learning with a teacher at your side?

FWAP is bad because it doesn't actually teach you the basics, Loomis just assumes things like line quality and sense of form are as easy for everyone as for a lifelong artist like him. It's the kind of thing he took for granted and didn't explain properly.

Do iPad users on /ic/ use a screen protector to get a textured feel to drawing?

If you have a screen protector, do you get wobbly lines when drawing slow, diagonal lines? I just put mine on and there is definitely line wobble compared to just drawing on glass.

Is the key to Procreate to just git gud at drawing on slippery glass?

Why do so many of you shill asian art instructors who don't speak english?

You're not japanese and you never will be. An english instructor will always be more helpful to you by being able to communicate theory using your natural idiom. It's time to stop pretending people like Krenz are the "best" learning resource.
