I think it's fine for a quick loose painterly image, though, pic related. How exactly does the brush "go to shit"?

This is from like a year ago. Can't help what I can't help.

Ruan Jia's work apparently has meaning to him.

Ruan Jia is pretty popular and pretty well-regarded outside of /ic/.

So aim for op Pic, and you'll probably be better off than most of the other artists you look up to.

You misunderstand. By poetry, I meant that your life, and therefore you, are worth existing.

>> No.4402626 [View]

I told another anon this a while back. But living a tragic life is vaguely romantic. And romance is poetry. And anything poetic is worth existing.

Fix your gaze forward and don't ever look back. Don't dream. Just devote yourself to the craft if you've got nothing else to live for. Your art may make a difference in somebody else's life one day. You might not know it yet, but that's the biggest accomplishment you could ever have.

Pinterest. I can probably count the number of times I've painted from life on one hand. For better or worse.

1. I don't know. Maybe it's the texture brush I use? I use a slightly modified version of Ruan Jia's old brushes. Think of it like glazing with a drybrush. Also large resolution. Like 10,000px at minimum.

2. I always block in my colors and values and then refine.

3. I don't know much about this. I learned the fundamentals a long time ago through free videos on YouTube. As for studying, I just look at lots of art daily and try to get in those artists' heads. Ruan Jia being my most notable influence.

Hope that's not too vague? I don't know what level you are, and what you already know or maybe don't know yet.

For reference, this is an earlier version that I painted before I started focusing on drawing.

Probably not in a noticeable way. I've been focusing more on drawing. Particularly perspective and shape design. I've been working on the picrel on and off for the past few weeks and I think it's a bit weaker than my old stuff.

This is drawn with a 0.3 hb mechanical pencil. Which is my preference. You can shade with the side of the pencil if you're inclined.

Technically you're right. But I don't think such a small detail really matters.

Basically I could just draw a parallel line in between one of the hatch lines on the right plane. But that alone won't make it a better drawing. A better composition, or better hatching in general would be worth talking about.

It's far top, slightly left from the center.
