Here, I wasn't sure exactly how best to make "moonlit night" light in greyscale--pure white didn't seem grim enough. I guess blueish tones are the go to for night light.

Also, in case anyone is intrigued:

The work continues. Should be finished Chapter 1 by August at the latest.

As always, actionable feedback more than welcome. I struggled to figure out how this painting should look like a painting, particularly with the sun from the right hand windows.

Two more pages for muh webcomic. I don't know jack about color theory, so I've been slowly introducing more of it to get a taste. I'm looking forward to a month or so of a hiatus. People have given great advice that I have not been quite able to practice yet. I need time to beef up my fundies.

If you're interested, check out the full comic here, roughly 74 pages, now.

I am back with more pages. The chapter is almost done soon, and once it is, I want to go on a month long hiatus to beef up my fundamentals.

This week's pages. Does a lack of expressed sound effects have a negative dampening effect? I'm trying out having as few words as possible, see if that lends some retrained tension. Perhaps that's too lofty a goal for the time being.

First off, I really like your style. Very expressive but takes itself seriously!

To my admittedly novice eye, His face and his right hand with the snake tail seems just a bit too dark--and the eye glow is just a bit too slight. Also, his left hand looks more like a foot half submerged in water than a hand. And if I'm really looking hard, the snake might be too smudgy, when my eye expects it to be the most polished, ominous part of the picture.

This past weekend's update left me conflicted. I really like how the first page came out, but I know I rushed the second. My caveman brain wasn't equipped to deal with two sources of light (in this case, morning light from windows and an eerie bio luminescence. Also, just in general, the more color I introduce, the more overwhelmed I feel. Any advice on pacing oneself with learning how color works?

Holy crackers, that's great! Made my year!

To your point, I think you're actually right in that I've dwelt too long on this emotionally charged scene. This first chapter has been a long lesson for me that way. I'd do it all very different. Hopefully, this scene will end relatively soon, and I can work on less exaggerated angsty stuff.

Hey thanks my dude, I appreciate you saying so. For clarity’s sake, is it the actual style or the technical failings that make it unappealing? I assume a ratio of the two? It would be helpful to know what rabbit to chase.

Believe it or not, trying to impress specifically YOU, anon, has been one of my motivations in trying to get somewhat decent. One day, my man.

I really fragged up the scaling of the first panel background, but otherwise, i think I'm learning a lot. Decent improvement for 6 months of work.

Saturday's update. I've been getting conflicting advice and praise/criticism--specifically panelling and "style." I don't feel equipped to be able to discern which is the right lead to follow. Fortunately, I absolutely love the process.

That’s frustrating to hear. I have gotten genuinely mixed reviews about my paneling, so I feel twisted about. What am I missing, you think?

That is as good a thing to hear as I could hope. I’m confident my time and focus investment is slowly but surely paying off. Thanks!
