As "that person" I can say that statement is inaccurate. I am aware of areas I both need and want to improve on. In fact a few years after making that image I started focusing my art in projects so that I always had a plan for things to draw.

What I'm fine with is my progress being slow. Art is a hobby for me and not my only interest, my focus will shift from one thing to another regularly and fall behind on things regularly. There are movies I've been meaning to watch for years, shows I like I'm behind on, games I haven't finished or even started playing yet, comics I still need to read/buy and books that I should get around to reading at some point.

Sure I'm comfortable with my current skill level but that doesn't mean I don't still work on ways to improve. In fact one thing I like doing when I return to a project idea I haven't worked on in a while is seeing the ways I have improved since the last time.

Yep. And during that first visit someone posted a link that shows every time that image gets posted that I check every now and then, which is why I'm here now.

>When did you realize that being self-taught is a meme?
I realized my own art progress image was a meme last year when someone got curious after it was used for a thread like this.

It varies. I certainly feel I've made a lot of progress since I started doing art projects to keep my drawing more frequent but there are still times I draw something and just can't make it work.

>>4068114
Don't worry about it, the posts aren't that frequent. In fact the one from last week was the first post made this year, I think catching my attention had reduced the amount of times it gets posted. Really main the reason I even check for these posts is people do often ask questions and sometimes I have an answer for them.

As for your offer I might check back in the morning, it's the middle of the night over here so I should get some sleep.

I'm not exactly a regular, but I do have a page that shows every time that image gets posted here bookmarked and I just checked it a few minutes ago and found out I had another thread about me last week.

And I should note I'm not exactly crushed by the comments but it has more of an impact than just pointing out a fault like my lack of shading or bad proportions. It's people saying "this is an example of art not improving over several years" and me agreeing.

My old art progress image becoming something of a meme on this board. Part of why it hit hard is a lot of the points are accurate, I wasn't drawing enough and my art went between staying the same and getting worse as a result.

So I checked to see if this image had been posted recently, didn't expect anything since there's been no reference for months, and I find two from the last few weeks.

This is the thing about that image that makes me feel uncomfortable. Not the fact it's posted on 4chan as a joke but that as it goes on I keep admitting to not having motivation to draw as much as I'd like.

Just going to say this now. No I'm not good at pixel art, I edited Pokémon sprites.

People keep saying that. I'm not good at pixel art, I edited Pokémon sprites back when the games still used them.

Well since that old art progress image of mine appears to get posted a lot without noticing my replies it probably didn't stand out.

It's worth noting that until 2013 I didn't draw that frequently. I'd be inspired to draw a bunch of things in a row and then go back to not drawing again. The art projects were my way around that and I have seen results from it but something the thread I made this tripcode to reply to made me think about is that I'm going to need to try out other methods to help improve in other areas. One method I have planned is to start using a sketch book to draw things I don't plan on scanning more often.

It's an edit of sprites from Pokémon games, a pretty minor edit at that too. I just put Ash and May's clothes on the Young Couple trainer class.
>>3354586
>has not improved at all
That's not exactly true. There are several areas where I have improved but they're mostly minor improvements.
>>3354598
A lot of different things effecting different areas in different ways. I covered a few of them in this thread >>3332719 if people are interested.

In what way exactly?

>I noticed that you typically draw characters in the same art style all the time. It's easy to stay in your comfort zone like that but try a bunch of art styles you've never tried before to gain more knowledge.
I think that's one of the things I'll be sure to try with the sketchbook plan. Sometimes I will draw characters I feel need to be drawn closer to their original art style but it's not something I do that often.

That's also another one of the reasons I wanted to do the Ben 10 art project. It meant drawing a lot more non-human designs with different body types.

My autism is only one of my obstacles and the main thing it effects with my art is my ability to understand instructions. However if it was just my autism that effected my progress I'd still improve in other areas.

Figure out the right method for you. I'm still working on that but I have seen results from the methods I've used, now I just need to find other methods so I can improve in other areas. That's why I'm going to try out a sketchbook for the sake of drawing on the go and experimenting in ways I wouldn't with an art project.

I'm probably just going to make the occasional visit. Mostly I'm going to skim through reactions to times that art progress pic of mine gets posted for questions I can answer and then check for anything useful while I'm here. On that note I'll take a look at those threads you suggested now.

>> No.3342794 [View]

>>3342694
A wide range of reasons. But mainly because of focus. The thing that embarrasses me the most about that image is I kept admitting to not drawing as much as I wanted to. Often I find myself less motivated to work on my art and the longer I spend not drawing the more I have to get used to it again when I'm motivated again.

>>3342704
Autism effects different people in different ways. Also mine isn't Asperger's, it's apparently close to it but not quite the same.

Also if you're wondering why I'm here another thread about my old art progress image was used was brought to my attention and one of the relies was a highlight of all the times it's been posted. I've been checking it because it often leads to questions that I might as well answer myself.

>or are you going to work with sprites?
Probably not. I mostly made edits of Pokémon sprites so once they stopped using them I stopped editing them. I might give sprite work a shot again someday but I'd probably need to learn new methods of making/editing them.

I can't even comprehend it.

One thing I'm thinking of doing is taking a break from my usual projects and just draw without the intention of scanning, colouring and uploading. The projects are still helpful and I still plan on moving ahead with the specific ideas in my head before I do this but this thread has motivated me to think about other methods too.

So here's the plan. Finish the next three Ben 10 aliens, draw a few Marvel characters and then before jumping back to one of my other projects put my focus on filling a sketch book.
