it's just a more complete composition atm i'm pretty sure

>>1494381
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that's great
i never even thought of scraping paint OFF the canvas, ever
i really, really like these. do you have a website or da or tumblr or anything?

>>1494383
if you took out the red at the bottom this would look like a really drunk Stella piece.

>>1494384
i was actually talking to Mister Grattage here but that's cool :)
glad you're not finished with the one on the right, definitely needs some more work. do you intend to have similar color structure (to the one on the left) or not so much?

I like these a lot. I'd hang them on my walls. Have you considered using a more impasto technique with them? The colors are beautiful and the forms are really interesting but they do seem quite...shallow? flat?

>>1494373
god, that mirror really threw me off for a second. i like the one on the left, really sparse use of color variation.

gotcha, yeah, that was what i was talking about. sorry if i'm not...familiar with the exact terms. i like what you're doing with the intersecting planes, it just seems a bit like you could maybe make the divisions between those planes more extreme at points?

>Oil
wow, that's...that's pretty incredible tbh, it looks like a digital painting.

Needs more opacity; right now you've got two layers, neither of which are particularly foregrounded. I do quite like how you reverse the overlap relationship at the top and bottom, though.

>>1494037
What media is this?

>>1494056
oh, hey, thanks. Yeah, I was actually going at merging decalcomania with De Stijl compositions at the time. pic related is some of the others from the same series.

pls take yr insanity elsewhere
nobody cares about the drama that you think you're fighting but are actually creating

hah, i had never actually thought of this before. always mixed with a brush. good idea.

You'll probably want to go into considerably greater detail if you're making a composition that macro; if you confront a viewer with an object like that you want to make sure the object is worth looking at.

>>1493516
This is cool, but...severely unbalanced, without any detail towards the top. I think it would probably work a lot better as a horizontal composition with the entire top half lopped off.

this is an older piece i did, should i go back to more vibrant colors...? the blue one was supposed to have a small color palette, and the other...yeah, the colors are kinda right shit on that one.

any improvements you'd recommend specifically?

>>1493280
oh, thanks for clarifying. your syntax was INSANELY confusing.

it's an interesting technique, but...yeah, definitely more conceptually bent than anything.

He's not trying to make "professional level representational work" as far as I can tell; that piece isn't supposed to be fully visually representational.

>>1493232
That isn't "critique," it's being a complete ass and personally attacking the artist. Either talk about the work or fuck off.

Funny that those are the bits you don't like; it started out with just those parts, and the perspective was only added in just recently to provide some depth.

You're definitely right, the blue stripe has to go, but I feel like if they were confined a bit more the ink washed areas (the "splotchy/drippy/masked/whatever of gray") would provide some important textural contrast.

Definitely agree on the drippy shapes, those are pretty gross. I'm gonna try and solidify the whole thing more and work on defining individual shapes. Thanks for the words, I appreciate it.

looking for critique on this since nobody seemed interested in the other one.

>>1492861
Looks like de Kooning without the energy. A lot of your brushstrokes are really wobbly, which saps it of any really dynamic movement. That might not be the direction you're going for, of course, but if I were you I'd sacrifice some accuracy for more spontaneous application.

>>1492468
This is really nice. Did you mix any of those colors before painting them on?

>>1492808
The only detailed portion of it is in the lower right-hand quadrant; there's no balance at all between that portion and the rest of it. You could maybe go for some sort of structure placed on the hill in the center/upper left, to create draw into the background of the composition?

there's merit in pursuing an aesthetic or an artistic ideology to its logical conclusion, though - you could say about an abstract expressionist piece that it's "low-effort" compared to, say, a Rembrandt, but that by no means means there's nothing to it.

>> No.1490687 [View]

>>1490686
oh - just the overall structure of the piece in >>1486805 made me think it might be a conglomeration of patterns you doodle / draw a lot, i come up with a lot of my larger pieces through forms that emerge in throwaway drawings. you've got some serious talent doe, with versatility like that.

>> No.1490685 [View]

>>1490684
oh pssh
how dark it was made me think pen, everything i do in pencil is really high key so i'm not used to seeing shades like that in graphite.
seriously impressive though for that small. how much time did you spend on it? are those patterns that you draw a lot?

>> No.1490678 [View]

>>1490674
ah, okay. it's just that the patterns seemed slightly...out of place? arbitrary? for an abstract piece. i think that's one thing you should work on; just tossing polka dots or stripes into a given shape is incredibly kitsch imo.
