I thought you weren't supposed to try to develop a certain style until you got good in the first place.
Anyway, let's assume I want to draw like either of these guys, what should I learn from them?

His first insta post: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDZ0lGsSgFR/ (2016).

Just follow along what he did I guess (value studies, courses, plenty of color and master studies). You won't get good with color unless you have solid drawing and composition, color mixing and paint/brush handling skills already. Then you can try looking for Gurney or Fowkes I guess.

7B (soft pencils) are best used on smooth paper, and I think are more of an advanced tool. Your problem is not line quality per say, it's that you're rushing.

Here's an exercise (spend 2h, 3h on it, take it seriously): make a 5-steps values scale; each step must be as smooth and uniform as possible, and they must be as equally separated (in value) as possible. It'll train your eyes, force you to pay attention to how your pencil and eraser work.

You can cut your eraser to a smaller triangular shape to give you more precise erasing.

I've literally learnt a new thing about graphite pencil today, despite having spent hundreds of hours drawing with graphite over a few years. Mediums are hard.

I'm not a big fan of Odd's odd mood, dare I say.

otherwise, it's a tough question. there so many *very* good artists, like, better than even the best of the 19th century. but most of them aren't too well-rounded.

for example, Alain Picard is a great pastelist, great touch and sense of color, but there are major drawing issues on his portraits (https://www.picardstudio.com/portraits).).

a guy like Thomas Schaller has great watercolor handling, nice imagination skills for a tradfag, but his portraits are weak, and he's too often re-using the same color scheme.

there's tons of digital artists who have mad composition/color skills (here's one I'm randomly discovering https://www.instagram.com/gordillozart/)), but they often struggle as hell with trad (incidentally, this one can handle gouache just fine), because doing the same thing in trad requires so much more work.

atelierfags are overly tight, but some of them can do marvelous stuff (albeit sometimes boring) with still lifes or cast for example, despite the sight-size crutch.

Watts is probably one of the most well-rounded guy out there. if you've ever saw him handling one of those black pencil, once he's warmed up, to do quick figure or portraits.. the speed and control are reaaally outstanding. but, at least what I've saw in from his fine art stuff, it's a touch boring.

take a photo of something in a strong light. compare your photo to what you actually see. best if you can play around with the camera settings.

No, sculptors have an advanced 3d knowledge of anatomy because their work involves use of 3d space and realism is required for most sculptures so their attention to detail becomes heightened, where as in 2d spaces you can get away with inaccuracies or stylizated flourishes a lot easier (see goku's hair/ mickey's ears as an example of things that will be difficult to get away with in a 3d statue)

>>7066790
Depends on the sector of art you're looking at, the skills to be a competent draftsman are different than an animator/character designer etc etc. Look at the people who already have the job you want and aim to have skill comparable to them, start at the lowest level of professional but aim to be the best version of yourself within those parameters.

I remember seeing an old screenshot here where this girl had around their level of skill at ~19 with 200k followers or something like that. That was a while ago but they haven't got much better since. Point being, you can shoot up quick with a certain style but stunt yourself in the long run. And I'm sure that they're content with their technical ability which is fine too, it really doesn't have to be a race to get better all the time.
