Desktop environments are bloat, but xfce is the least shitty. Use a windowing manager.
Unironically surf, but since the web is pure bloat, an extremely stripped down Firefox with i3 keybinds.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Arch
Tmux / Sway
w3m / qutebrowser

I use terminal programs far more than graphical ones at this point. If I want to listen to music I use mpd or mpsyt. If I want e-mail I use neomutt. Newsboat handles my rss feeds. If its a youtube video Newsboat will launch mpv directly. If its a news webpage it launches w3m. For the Discord cancer I use Finch which is a command line version of Pidgin. Any links that I have pop up in any program, irc, finch, rss I direct through a plumbing program that will launch an instance of feh, mpv or w3m depending on the extension or url in a series of case statements. If I need to search for something I use Surfraw and that dumps it to w3m.

There are only a few programs I have yet to find a suitable command line version for. Bashbullet seemed non-functional so I couldn't use that for handling service notifications when Sonarr and its ilk download a movie/tv show/anime. So that is an electron application that I never open from the system tray, it just sends shit to Dunst. Twitter fucked with the API so I have to run Tweetdeck through an electron application called Atomic Tweet Deck and lastly Nextcloud's client is a graphical program. That is all I have left.

Once you hit the Command Line zen you have trouble going back. I can easily use an outdated Thinkpad solely because I don't need some hefty GPU and if I was compiling shit I'd do it via ssh on my server.
