>NO Speccy or "bottleneck checkers"

CPUs based on current prices
>Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming
>R3 2200G - Light 30-60fps gaming(dGPU optional). 2400G if you want a CPU which can last into a GPU upgrade
>R5 2600/X - Good 60fps+ gaming & multithreaded use
>9700k - Wait for new patched benchmarks
>R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper - HEDT

>BE AWARE that Microsoft, Apple, and others recommend disabling hyperthreading on Intel CPUs. Be aware that Intel tried to bribe researchers to delay releasing the vulnerability by an extra 6 months so they could do another stock sell off and release you scam 10th gen CPUs with HT.

>NEVER use only a single stick
>8GB - very light use, and/or if you don't mind closing programs regularly
>16GB - standard amount. If you have to ask if you need more, you don't
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2800MHz+ is ideal. Check "more" for true latency formula

Graphics cards based on current pricing:
>RX 570/580 - value.
>1660 - Slightly better perf for more demanding games on high/maxed 60fps+;
> 1660Ti / 1070 / Vega56 - higher framerates
1440p (WQHD)
>1070Ti / Vega - 60-120fps+ in most games on high/maxed
>2070 Overclocked or Radeon VII - Worth considering
>2080Ti - higher framerates
2160p (4k)
>Radeon VII - weaker than 2080ti
>RTX 2080Ti - good, but poor value.

>Consider a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & HDD
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard
>Consider 75hz display minimum; 60hz are old models
>AIOs don't change the laws of thermodynamics

Looking for a good 1440p 144hz monitor mostly for gaming on a 450 € budget.
Dont care for gsync/freesync, care more about good colors.
What are some good options /pcbg/ ?
Pairing it with a 2060.

Found a kid online selling a 1700x for $120 and an ASRock B450 pro4 for $60. Both are new in box. If I could talk him down to taking $160 for both should I jump on it? Any recommendations on what GPU to pair with these? Haven't built since 2014 so I'm a little out of the loop.

>> No.70988855

If you're making a gaming build, the 2600 is better than the 1800X. And the 2600 is basically $120 after you sell the games it comes with from some retailers.
Pro4 board new in box for $60 shipped is okay.

>I've got a 1060 3gb

There is this seller selling 12 gpus that are a year old that were apparently used for over a year for mining at 60%(supposedly of course)
Hes selling a 1070ti for only $260

Is it worth it to upgrade? I could probably ell my 1060 3gb for $150 if i think about it.

The ads been up since the 15th of april so i'm sure anyone that wants to bitch would have bitched by now.
The ads on a reputable forum created just for trading pc parts and the guys been a member since 2010
Should i pull the trigger?

>> No.70988939

I bought a used 1070 not long ago for £220 so that sounds like a good price, as long as it's not fucked from mining.

Quick question: I currently have 2x4GB of DDR4 in my Ryzen 2600 rig, built around a year ago when RAM prices were through the roof. I intended to purchase another kit later.
Now that I can buy it, a 2x8GB kit is cheaper than a 2x4 kit, so I guess I'll be getting 24GB of RAM.
How should I arrange the sticks ? Should I go 16-16-8-8, or 16-8-16-8 ? Does it makes any differences ?

My Vega 64 was used for mining and it's fine. So long as they took care of the cards and kept them clean there's not a huge issue since most miners run them at maximum efficiency vs. maximum output like you would in gaming or OC applications.

So long as he looks on the up and up I'd be fine with buying.

For your average home user, meh not really.

These are side-channel attacks, generally meaning you need physical access to the system in question.

Hyperthreading is a feature on Core i7 processors and leaving it enabled leaves you open to an exploit that could steal your personal data. There's an update to fix it but it reduces processor performance as a result.

Open the Start Menu and type in mdsched.exe, then press enter. Say Yes to Restart your PC to test RAM.
For some reason, when you do this, it forced windows to re-reccognize all your hardware and any drives that weren't showing up, will now show up when the test is done.
After the test, go To Run > Disk Management and then the drives should show up as Unallocated Space, when you can Right click them and "New Volume".

Sorry, but it's pure fear mongering, this has nothing to do with security for the average home user since these types of attacks would have NO reason to target a specific individual.

The MAIN concern is with VM users on large hosted platforms that can leak sensitive information to 3rd parties. If you can figure out where your specific target is hosting, you can potentially target them specifically and attempt to leak information that specifically pertains to THAT company, but it's far from an effective attack vector for a home user that isn't going to have ANY sort of useful information for you to get.

At the end of the day, this has ZERO bearing for the average person, there is no more security risk than before for them.

I'm thinking of building a new computer and I'm not too well informed in terms of cooling.
I'm thinking that if I build a new PC to replace my old teenage years one I might as well spoil myself with some of the nicer shit, so naturally I'm looking at the best processors the market has to offer without selling my kidney.
That being said, how much do I need to invest in cooling something like, say, an i9? (not that i'd necessarily get an i9, just something that runs as hot as that for the sake of the discussion)
I don't THINK I'll do an awful lot of overclocking but I WOULD like my PC to be able to handle it if I so desired.
Is water-cooling a meme or is it noticeably better? generally speaking when looking at a fan what do I need to check to make sure it can handle what I throw at it?
If it at all matters it gets pretty hot where I live, easily above 30C in summer.

I'm also that I might as well aim for relatively low temperatures, I know it would technically 'work' but I can't say I want my CPU to go above 80C when under load

Ok so this is kind of an abstract question but I'm not sure what I want to do here and I need some general advice:

I currently have two monitors on a dual monitor mount - one 25" Dell Ultrasharp (1440) and a cheap 24" Acer that I use to play PS4 and as a second monitor for my PC, but its kinda shitty.

I want to upgrade them, but I'm not sure what to upgrade to. For my main monitor I would like to play more than 60hz on PC but also I need an IPS with good color management because I do design and video editing so the Ultrasharp was the best for that in my budget, but I sacrifice more frames when gaming. For the other monitor getting something with HDR would be nice for my PS4 but also if I got something with 144hz I could use it for gaming but I'd have to have my neck turned constantly because it's not the main monitor. There's also the issue of the PS4 only supporting 1080 or 4K, so my secondary monitor can't be 1440. also my main monitor is only 25", so it would look weird if my secondary monitor was larger than my main one at 27".

I don't really know where this question is going, but does anyone have tips on having a good work / gaming balance for monitors? Idk what to do.

How the fuck is this even a legit comparison?
They give the 2070 and 2080 both 10/10 ratings, then say the 2080 is worse because of price?
Thats saying both are equal in performance but the 2080 is more expensive.

This is why I fucking hate modern computers. Shit for brains release out bullshit like that and then cock suckers believe it.

fuck off you lying piece of shit. You said overall, As if "implying" that the gaming 7 for the intel chipset would be better than the gaming 7 for the am4 chipset. they're the fucking same, apart from the chipset.

I brought up variability and I'm butthurt as fuck that they never had a premium matx. Which must've reminded that it this was a good strat to twist your first argument. i'll give you another, the ultra high-end also has no analogue for the amd chipsets -- gaming 9, extreme, godlike, or maximus -- all of them stopped at the 2nd highest tier. But still the overall quality is the fucking same because even if intel was quite literally every single motherboard maker on the planet they'd still wouldn't be bothered to change suppliers for the equivalent sku's. The quality is exactly the same, the components are exactly the same. The variability though.

The problem is, there's no real good choices
>Ray tracing was such a flop--and nVidia knew it, that they came out with the 1660Ti
>Radeon vii was a flop, and AMD is still relying on RX 5 series sales
>GPU prices are still relatively jacked to where you're still paying $800 for a flagship card months after their release
Nvidia's price tiering is so fucked up that you're logically jumping from the 2060 to the 2080 as far as for their value leaders (lol)
>Can't even expect to find deals for 2060 cards since manufacturers slapped low-end coolers on mid-range cards

>> No.70993787

>especially at smaller form factors
there are two good x atx boards and the tomahawk, those are the most shilled.

the mortar is the only decent matx and the taichi and the b450i gayming plus are the two good mitx. intel may have as many good ones but they have decent ones. amd is literally sink or swim.

Worth paying for? I really only need it for a few modern-ish games to help with stuttering and not fps gains.

The thing I will never get about mATX is that you're giving up too much for the relative amount of space you're saving

I'm not arguing about aspace efficiency, but the flipside is space efficient ATX cases can get pretty damn small.

In my opinion--go ITX, or just find and be comfortable with a a space efficient ATX case. Hell, even ITX cases are getting on the large size. I'm progressively turning my sights towards NUC and other mini-PC's for my portable server needs.

lmao 2200G is shit-tier APU
GTX 1060 is shit-tier GPU

If there is a dedicated GPU, he should've gone with the R5-1600 or something similar. No reason to get an APU with an iGPU when you've already bought a dGPU to run your games on that is more powerful.

tldr; you could probably build one better.

HOWEVER, because of the price and if it includes all those accessories, like the 144hz monitor, then it is certainly worth the price in total.

Just kinda a shitty build for that performance level.

>> No.70996841
