i dropped a drive like 5 years ago. i tried a couple of times to recover without success. the partition table is wrekt because i keep trying to rewrite it to what it should be but i have little idea as to what it should be. at one point i tried to get the same drive and copy the partition table from one to the other. i feel like i should be able to programatically check if a hypothesized table is a match. like brute force it. any tips?

Stop fucking with the drive if you don't know what you're doing. Just use testdisk or photorec to recover the files and fuck the rest
