It's called the Apple Tax. Does less. Costs more. It's that simple.

>being this much of a retarded itoddler
Hey iRetard, do you really think that these components are mounted by hand by someone just for your faggoty ass? A robot in a factory places the flash storage on the motherboard and heat guns it for a few seconds and then pushes it down the line. There's no manual labor involved. It's all automated.

who is this evil person who is forcing you to buy Apple products? the way free market works is that you part with your money when you feel a product or service is worth it, and obviously you don't consider this product worth your money, so what the fuck are you complaining actually?

That's real fucking stretch if I've ever seen one. Your original argument is that 256GB of flash storage is $200 because Macshit is handmade. None of these components are surface mounted by hand. Not now, not ever, not by any company anywhere.

To be fair, Apple's PCI SSDs are some of the fastest on the market and others with similar performance cost about the same.

However, if they actually listened to their consumers, they would offer normal speed SSDs at normal prices since most people don't need 3000MB/s read speeds.

that's why all the PC cases everywhere have USB-C ports and the headers are on all mobos

>> No.68373007

... Yes ?
A lot of modern cases come with at least one USB-C port on the front, and most modern motherboards have USB-C ports on them as well.
Type A IS on the way out, it just takes a while. It's going the way the VGA/D-SUB port went.

>> No.68373033

no, it's more of an exception. USB-C on back panel is more common (still missing from at least half the mobos though, probably more), but it is useless on back panel, gud lack finding it to stick your shit or cable there.

Headers for pulling C to the front panel are rare than idunno what, decent mac computer?

>> No.68373043

>Headers for pulling C to the front panel
It's literally the same header as regular USB 3.1, which just about every motherboard since Z97 has.

>> No.68373128

The reversibility and other features of C (power delivery, alt modes) would not work liek that, so I doubt it. Type C needs an extra mux chip which is the reason cheaper mobos have just USB 3.1g2 type A.

>> No.68373158

I have not checked the service guide yet but if it isn't soldered I can confirm the SSD would likely have a proprietary connection/ slot for the SSD that only a selected models of Macs can use (likely only the two port 2016-2017 and maybe the 2018 model MacBook Pro 13-inch with no Touch Bar).

No normal NVM-E SSD will work with a Apple Mac and the Mac's were designed that way intentionally.

The 2012 non-Retina MacBook Pro models were the last mod-able Macs. Now you need industrial electronic servicing equipment and the required skill set (or labour instead) to just upgrade either the RAM or the SSD (CPU and GPU could also apply).

In short there is no hope in modding a Mac at an affordable cost (where the Mac is worth less than the hardware inside generally, costs are more on software and "first class" service/ support).

>> No.68373389
File: 13 KB, 425x425, 71+-jg7PZ4L._SX425_.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

Nope, cases with type-C 3.1g1 just have a regular ass 3.1g1 connector, it doesn't need a chip on the mobo for reversibility.
3.1g2 uses a different connector and header entirely.
Pictured: type-C 3.1g1 with its internal connector

Type-C is a mess in that it can be implemented in a boatload of different ways, and until recently no one seemed to be able to agree on how they should implement it on the front panel, whether it's as regular 3.1g1. or as just a straight up internal type-C port, or the "new" proper 3.1g2 header.

Nonetheless, type-C IS fairly commonplace on modern cases though most of them probably aren't 3.1g2 because that hasn't been commonplace on motherboards until very recently. It's only going to become more common from here, as type-A is being phased out.
In a few years we'll probably only see a couple of type-A ports for a mouse and keyboard on motherboards with the rest of them being type-C, though even some mice and keyboards are starting to come with type-C connectors.

The the port won't be reversible and support extra features. Question is, why bother with C then.
>type-A is being phased ou
Who says that?

>> No.68373541

It will be reversible, it won't support extra features that (should) come with 3.1g2. Like I said, you don't need a chip on the motherboard for reversibility, that chip sits in the cable just behind the connector. Why do you think type-C plugs are as long as they are? It's not the connector itself taking up all that space.

>Who says that?
Oh I don't know, how about the entire industry moving more and more towards type-C?

I see that only in notebooks. it's dubious how they mean it, it might be just trying to be extra thin or in the case of Apple, sell dongles.

>> No.68373616

The port is always reversable, do you not understand how it works? That has nothing to do with the part that plugs into the motherboard.

Type A is being phased out slowly but surely, but I dont think it will phase out completely from the standpoint that CD-ROM drives are still being used even though they are vastly inferior in every aspect to a USB other than media price, and even that is getting close to a non-issue for most applications. I would not expect it to still be the dominant port in 5 years however. I have a strong feeling type-c will become just as common as type-a soon enough.

I hope you are wrong. For most things, C is needlessly complex, cables are needlessly expensive. I'm fine with C existing for fancy applications, but A has to stay.

Yea senpai, just notebooks

>> No.68373732

just checked in a store, it's actually only a fraction of mobos that have any C at all (back panel which is useless)
at best half of current mobos (only looked at AM4 and 1151v2) has USB-C. And that usually means single port. Yeah, it is taking world by a storm.
Not going to bother with cases, I tried a year ago and there were like 5, so I doubt it's in every single one now.

So your entire ideology is just leeching off of the success and infrastructure of a clearly superior economic idea.

Wait, wtf, considering that SSDs have a very limited lifespan, this is pure planned obsolescence. Right in your face. That custom SSD will in just a few years become unwritable and you will have to install and run everything externally.
Unless you buy another one from apple, after you pay the apple tax for the service too.
You have to be a total idiot to buy this edition of macmini.

>and you will have to install and run everything externally
Assuming it just doesn't brick itself, which wouldn't surprise me at all with these proprietary nonstandard architectures. You often find all sorts of crap about Macs when they get old. Like, notebooks running at half-frequency all the time when battery is dead/unchargeable.

Consider this: It can be turned off with a simple software setting.
