Remember that you don't need necessarily discreet amp/dac for your new headphones; your motherboard already has one. If your cans sound quiet or you hear unnecessary noise then you should look into getting one, but expensive audiophile dacs and amps won't suddenly make bad headphones sound better.

Has anyone done a bluetooth mod to any of their headphones? Was looking for a pair of bluetooth headphones for my phone but I have a dt770s that I haven't used in years, and there are bt5 receivers these days that seem decent.

I have an old round driver t20 and they just end up sounding like slightly worse t50rps with creaky housing.

Old yamaha orthos actually sound really fucking good but they're a pain to work with. Really cramped, cheap housing and they're way more picky about the materials you damp them with than fostex. I've had mine for years and never really been happy with them.

Looking for a closed headphone for around 200$ for use with my phone and laptop. I’ve narrowed it down to the Beyer DT 770 (more Bass centric) or the AKG 553 (more Neutral). I’ve heard the Sennheiser HD 569 and HD 598 Cs are muddy.

Would you go for any of these with these requirements? Any Alternative suggestions? Why or why not?

It's more that there's a ~800 Hz emphasis than a lack of midbass. Try doing -4.5 dB @ 800 Hz w/ Q 0.6, that should bring the bass -> midrange transition into balance.

>> No.68226110

There likely is but I would like to suggest you do not change your hd800 pads.Just do the SDR mod and you have one of the best headphones of all time. Changing the pads will likely change the sound significantly and you won't be able to measure it to tell.
There is someone on reddit called oratory1990 or 1990oratory this is his measurement >>68223504 layout. Smart dude. He has nice pads like you posted on his hd800 but was also able to measure it and correct it with FR.
The only options that make sense to me are:
1) Leave stock pads
2) Buy his exact pads and use his EQ to correct it
The chink pads for the hd6x0 line for example are trash, ruin the sound, lower quality etc. Don't ruin your HD800 anon

The Q of the resonance and the front vent can be modified to stop the ridiculous midrange response. Of course, the leakage is not something that can be controlled and tends to dominate otherwise intended corrections.
Or you could slide in a useful shelf filter in a multi-way armature, not that most do.

Neat Android setting. Seems more useful than parametric for real use of IEMs.

I know they like changed the HD650 at some point and it ended up being much more similar to the HD600 FR so I presume the HD6XX would be identical to the newer revision if any.
I've modded other headphones in the past to reduce resonances and shit and I think they worked really well so I'd like to at least do that to the HD6XX as well as the KISS mod.

I think he means it reminds him of a corpse. I have plenty of experience w/ Paypal so I'm not worried about not getting a refund if it calls for it. Multiple voltage states corresponding to quantized levels. You can implement by switched capacitors or by a resistor network. I fell for the HD 6xx meme. I knew I should have went with AKG.

>> No.68228198

There's not too much that's explicitly wrong, but it is obvious poster doesn't know very much about converters or signal processing. The general sense is correct, but most of the argument seems to come from psychoacoustics.

The portion that is most incorrect is the filtering, not that it changes the matter than Schiit is spewing nonsense. Parks-McClellan is an algorithm for synthesizing coefficients for FIR filters. It is not linked to delta-sigma modulation in particular, but the resampler. The Schiit ad copy doesn't link the two, Singapore anon does.
He was asking around in /hpg/ about the subject a couple years ago, and I gave him an answer. Trying to reread what Moffat posted in the first place is making my eyes bleed.

>> No.68230152

no difference, maybe the 100 dollar one will have some software stuff you can trigger or something to "enhance" the sound.
usually high end headphones have high impedence, so you need an amplifier to make them sound at a listening volume.

>> No.68230159

they sound the same. and power refers to some high end headphones with high impedance and low sensitivity, mostly things like planar magnetic or electrostats

>> No.68230190

>do you think there's actually a noticeable difference between sound cards
There most likely is not, if you don't hear any noise from it the only thing that could influence it is the output impedance of the card, and even that very often makes zero or a minimal, inaudible difference. Don't believe shills and fools telling you otherwise, they try to con you into a purchase so they can feel better and justified about theirs.

>headphones need more power
Some headphones need more juice to get loud. Logically, in-ear headphones will need less power to reach a certain sound volume than large speakers, for example. If your new headphones require more power, maybe you won't be able to get them loud enough from just your sound card. It depends.

i don't know, that's why i'm asking, has there been any study on whether they sound different or not?

>> No.68234124

someone could buy a broken yggy, replace the insides with an ODAC or similar and take it to a headfi meet

>> No.68234149

Marv has done blind testing on DACs and he was able to hear the differences with a very good accuracy. It wasn’t even DS vs R2R but 2 cheap DS DACs:

>> No.68234159

both designs have compromise but one is waaay more complicated and expensive to do and both compromise are inaudible. well atleast if you dont use dsd, at that point the more expensive option cant even play it. r2r is just an engineering showpiece (disrete ladders not schiit ICs) that i agree looks really good on a pcb, but is like cables, only a cock rating contest.

>I am a happy owner of all three Schiit multibit DACs, could spend my time with the Ygg exclusively. But I would be missing out on the auditory experiences the other two provide. These DACs really should be heard. All the flowery prose in the world falls short of the reality presented by these Schiit multibit DACs. I would rather have 16 really good bits with excellent channel matching, than the usual mediocre 17 to 18 from the claimed 24 and 32 bit Delta-Sigma DACs.

Nah, it's alright for the price and you already got better pads, i'd say you are set for a long time. Enjoy.

Atomicbob took pic related measurements from the Modi 2 Multibit, he called that "incredible performance", that is supposed to be a sine wave
you have to be a retard to think he's not a shill

>posting the USB measurement instead of the better SPDIF measurement
Who the fuck uses USB connection to DAC anyways? Typical Amir(shill) tactic, using data that isn’t exactly false, but tactically omitting everything that doesn’t fit the agenda.

>> No.68234337

oh well thats a very smooth sinewawe right here. jesus you are totally delusional guys.

>> No.68234344

don't try to change the subject, this isn't about how the modi measures, is about atomicbob calling that garbage "good"
he's either incapable of reading his measurements or is intentionally misleading people, either way you have to be a retard to trust him

>> No.68234349

I use USB with my Topping D30 :)

>> No.68234361

I trust him more than you randos. What have you done for the community, huh?

>> No.68234405

the only right things to do, not being part of it. now go back to your world of subjectivism sponsored shills and black magic or bring some facts here.

Yet you don't trust Amir?

>What have you done for the community, huh?
named the shills

>> No.68234518

Amir has selectively omitted info from his measurements if it fits his agenda. For example, he measured Yggy’s single ended output even when everyone actually uses it balanced.

>> No.68234542

I've never really fiddled with EQing before when it comes to headphones. Are you supposed to use something like foobar's built in EQ, or is there a standalone application that does it system-wide?

yeah you can get equalizer APO + Peace for free and parametrically filter to your heart's content

so what you're saying is that he did measure the balanced output

>> No.68234614

Only after people told him that leaving it out was a scummy move. He tried to trick the community by leaving those measurements out at first.

>> No.68234640

He wasn't tricking anyone. The Yggy sucks.

>> No.68234643

>He tried to trick the community by leaving those measurements out at first
but it still measures like shit, how is it tricking the community if no matter what output you use the yggy is equally garbage
