Using chrome.

Open chrome://apps/ and right click any app and tick "Open as a window"

You can add "Custom apps" to that page by just drag and drop, they are not really "apps" it just uses chrome engine to run them on a different window so notification support is limited to chrome.

Always right clicking you can create shortcuts to your desktop or apps menu they'll appear under "Chrome apps"

Keep and docs can be added from the store so you have a nice icon and work offline, so you have a nice lightweight office suite that syncs when you go back online.

This also works on windows.
