Razer is stepping up its game:
Razer has announced a new optical switch in their huntsman keyboards called opto-mechanical. Built by A4tech for Razer, it features a clicking mechanism for tactile and auditory feedback while using an optical sensor for lighting fast response times. Razer expects 1.5-2ms of input lag thanks the lack of debounce times compared to the 8-10ms if a standard mechanical switch.
Some specifications
Actuation Force: 45g
Actuation Point: 1.5mm
Total Travel Distance: 3.5mm
Durability: 100 million clicks
Compatible with Cherry MX keycaps
If these switches look very similar to Bloody's Light strike switches, it's because A4tech is the OEM for both of them, similarly to how Kailh and Greetech are the OEM for Razer's green, yellow and orange switches.

While on the subject of Razer switches. Razer is now allowing third parties to use their switches and software. The new Ducky Shine 7 for example will feature Razer switches in addition to cherry MX switches. Additionally Razer is also allowing third party keyboard manufactures to use chroma software and sync up with the entire chroma ecosystem. MSI, NZXT, AMD, Thermaltake, Lian Li, Vertagear, Gigabyte and Ducky have all been given access to the chroma API

This is where I need he most help. I like Topres (45g) a lot. This keyboard will be for work and I don't want to spend as much, so Topres are out of the picture. Cherry Blues are nice, but the clicky might be too loud. Browns feel like a linear key with sand in them. Clears are a bit too stiff for my tastes. Any suggestions?

Just got my Hako Royal Trues today and I'll give you guys a bit of a review. They are an interesting switch. Extremely tactile, I would say the tactility is similar to that of a heavier dome. The hako spring effectively keeps me from bottoming out after the bump so in terms of weighting it's exactly what I've been wanting. On the return these things really pop back up, so I would say that the reset is even more tactile than the downstroke.

Conclusion: I like them better than BOX Navies.

Okay, so I swapped a navy spring into a hako royal and vice versa.

Hako Royal/Navy Spring: Guaranteed bottom out but doesn't really lose that much tactility, except on the upstroke. Definitely worse than stock.
Box Navy/True Spring: Not noticeably that much different from standard box navies, except for a more cushioned landing after the click. Definitely would help keep you from bottoming out on box navies but wouldn't be worth the time it would take to spring swap all your switches.

I love the damn thing. From what I've heard the QC issues were an early batch problem. Mine has no issues whatsoever -- no keycap issues, usb port feels solid as a rock (I drunkenly tried to shove it in upside down one night for about 5 minutes and managed not to fuck the port up)

Mine has clears and it feels awesome as someone who types with a lot (unnecessary) force

The only issue imo is the non-standard layout which makes it hella expensive or impossible to get replacement keycaps, depending on the set. The good news there is that the stock keycaps are simply excellent and the only reason to replace them would be for aesthetic purposes, so the extent to which the non-standard layout bothers you will just depend on how much of a faggot you are.

>transparent keys
Be aware that backlit PBT keycaps are pretty damn rare. The vast majority of transparent-legended keycaps are going to be ABS (which will start shining within a few months of use). So you'll have to either compromise on this, compromise on keycap quality, or be severely limited in choice.

>> No.66562818

Meant to say transparent letters on the keys. I understand there are some with backlighting and opaque letters.

>> No.66562849

Most (good) keycaps are fully opaque, like this anon said >>66562814. Stop falling for the backlighting meme, nigger.

>> No.66562879

I guess I could compromise on that if it is significant.

The room is usually dark where my computer is and I like to be able to see which key I'm hitting after I take my hands off the board. I'd probably at least get backlit opaque keys.

>> No.66563151

There's one backlit pbt set I found on Amazon from ymdk, it's apparently good according to reviews, but the larger keys like shift only partially shine through.

I accidentally spilled a little bit of beer on my keyboard yesterday. I pulled all the keycaps off and cleaned it up as best I could, but now my enter key doesn't work. In terms of repairing this, will I be able to desolder the switch and clean it? Or will I have to replace the switch entirely?

I tried all of /g/'s memes though. MX blues, Model m and kailh box meme. They're ok but honestly find typing more enjoyable on mx reds. I'll probably try some 'better' more g approved linear switches in the future but im happy for now

>> No.66578659

Blues feel nice thou, reds not so much. Shoulda got blacks desu. O rings just make them mx silents essentialy?

>Local warehouse is selling Corsair K68 with red switches
Should i just get one of those cherry 3x3 samplers, and find out if Red is even a good switch? I guess i should also get some o rings, just to see how it even impacts volume
I mean... that is... acceptable?

>> No.66579671

if it's local maybe you can go and try an actual keyboard instead of spending money to try a single switch in isolation

>> No.66579678

from my experience, just feeling a switch doesn't necessarily tell you whether you'll like typing on them. I'd try to find a sample board at a store or something so you can really try typing.
also o-rings do make it quieter, but you'll feel the rubber when you bottom out

Why do you have so many boring keyboard in boring layouts with boring switches? It doesn't make sense unless you're selling them - as a hobbyist wouldn't you want meme and unusual layouts and switches, and as a user you wouldn't want more than 1-2 keyboards with your favourite switch(es) and layouts.

Tada68 is cheap, in the sense that it's pretty much the cheapest board you can get that doesn't have anything wrong with it. If you're not a hobbyist and just want something to type, then a tada68 is basically just as good as any $300 ultra meme group but Korean custom kit.

Those $20-40 cheap chink boards will probably have Outemu switches (which are the bottom of the barrel in not just price, but also quality) and cheap, shitty, thin ABS keycaps. Those are the main two issues. They also almost all have shitty gamer aesthetic. In any case it doesn't really matter what you buy due to these issues that they will all have, so nobody is going to recommend you anything, just grab whatever looks less disgusting to you.
