If i had to buy a stock one right now it would be this one. If you don't like any just custom make one on meranom. You can add the parts the cart and then add a part called "changing spare parts" and they will assemble it.

>> No.64475512

150? anything else? I'm not a fan at how simple their dials are for this case.

Ordering a custom model is not really "modding". Their current offerings are essentially an arbitrary selection of interchangeable parts. Having Meranom build you one is basically like ordering a factory stock watch of your choice.

You adjust it by using some pliers
to unfold two hooks that connect every link to the next on. That way you remove as many links as you need. Then there’s the usual micro adjustment of the buckle, which btw is just a simple pressure buckle, no double lock.
The bracket is very light and sits very comfortably, reminds me of the bracelets on the Seiko penisquartz watches.

I take it you haven't seen much work from high-end independent watchmakers, which is essentially what Credor's Micro-Art Studio is? Wild designs like that aren't that unusual in the realm of independent haute horlogerie. They have also done some more restrained models like the Eichi II. Credor's Micro-Art Studio does some of the best external and movement finishing in the world, incidentally.

The issue is that there is virtually zero connection between the stuff the MAS makes and the rest of the Credor line, which is stuck in the very worst of the 80s nadir of haute horlogerie brands.

>> No.64483471

I've seen a lot - more than most, in fact, because I used to work in the motorsports and high-end classic car worlds, and there's a ton of crossover with ultra high-end watches there. That doesn't mean I like this stuff, though, IMO it's just gratuitous flaunting of wealth without much regard for taste.

That said, I was mostly talking about the "mainstream" Credor line when I made that last post. I dunno, that line feels like if Patek decided to make a bunch of basic watches with off-the-shelf Japanese or ETA movements and sell them for $4k a pop, it both cheapens the brand and simply makes no sense from a buyer's perspective.

>> No.64483485

They both look hard to read unless in the right light and right viewing angle due to all the reflections. How well do the indices and hands reflect light?

One failing (and I've seen this in shitters to mid range to patek) is having a watch (with a darker that white dial) where the time isn't immediately apparent at a quick glance and a few turns of the wrist is needed to get it in just the right angle so you can see the time.

Most notable, and disappointing, was an inkyblack dialed auto calatrava, whitegold and I guess whitegold hands. Couldn't read the fucker in the store due to the lighting. The hands were so polished it was almost like looking at a black mirror.

One company that does this shit right is grand seiko, amongst others, but they do it really well with dark dials.

This is it: calatrava ref. 5227G
Super nice and legible in these renders but the hands are cut and so polished in such a way that they get lost in the glossy black dial.
Very disappointing to handle in person. And it's not like this was some back alley watch shop, this was a patek boutique with presumably a lighting setup that they'd rig to further flatter their watches.

So when I see these red/blue chinese watches, from maison celaldon or the beijing group, I have to wonder about instant legibility. If it's one thing I'm autistic about with regards to watches, it's instant legibility in most any light level.

Fucking silver hands and indices on silver dials are the fucking WORST shit ever. How anyone can read those at midday in sunlight I won't ever understand.

Next time, sure, take this kind of shot, but also take one from a mirror with your wrist held up.
That's how other will see you; if it's too big then, yeah, it's too big.

I still think that pic means there's too much overhang, but next time take a pic at a distance to see if it's truly noticeable and therefore laughable. You might be able to scrape by in some instances.

>HOWEVER, i've noticed when taking my own wristshots for later consideration, the watches always looked bigger when taken like this, even when in reality they weren't that bad.
This is because smartphones always have wide angle lenses and it distorts perspective, making objects closer look far larger than they actually are. This effect is magnified the closer the object is to the lens so with a thicker watch it becomes even more exaggerated.

I mean just look at how these people talk and you can get a strong understanding of them.

Seikos are desperately anxious to prove that Seikos are as horologically valuable and as capable as a Rolex. Clearly they are nagged by a fear that Seiko may NOT be as horologically valuable and as capable as Rolex.

You also see a tremendous overlap with the "weaboo" crowd which is composed of people who identify more with other people than their own, in this case the Japanese. You see, Seikos tend to hate anything that has an image of being strong, good and successful. They hate Rolex, they hate Western civilization, they hate white males, they hate aligned chapter rings. The reasons that Seikos give for hating Rolex, Vacheron, etc. clearly do not correspond with their real motives. They SAY they hate Rolex because it is overpriced, imperialistic, sexist, ethnocentric and so forth, but where these same faults appear in Seiko watches or in Reddit cultures, the Seiko finds excuses for them, or at best he GRUDGINGLY admits that they exist; whereas he ENTHUSIASTICALLY points out (and often greatly exaggerates) these faults where they appear in Rolex. Thus it is clear that these faults are not the Seiko’s real motive for hating Rolex and the West. He hates Rolex and the West because they are strong and successful.

Words like “self-confidence,” “self-reliance,” “initiative,” “enterprise,” “optimism,” etc., play little role in the Seiko vocabulary. The Seiko is anti-Rolex, pro-dogshit. He is not the sort of person who has an inner sense of confidence in his ability to solve his own problems and satisfy his own needs. The Seiko is antagonistic to the very concept of Rolex because, deep inside, he feels like a loser.

The Seiko is not typically the kind of person whose feelings of inferiority make him a braggart, an egotist, a bully, a self-promoter, a ruthless competitor. This kind of person has not wholly lost faith in himself. He has a deficit in his sense of power and self-worth, but he can still conceive of himself as having the capacity to be strong, and his efforts to make himself strong produce his unpleasant behavior. But the Seiko is too far gone for that. His feelings of inferiority are so ingrained that he cannot conceive of himself as individually strong and valuable. Hence the anime obsession of the Seiko.

If the Swiss watch industry had no problems at all, the Seiko would have to INVENT problems in order to provide themselves with an excuse for making a fuss.

I suppose it depends on what your individual standards are and what you're comparing to. For a cheap ass mechanical watch those seem to be pretty good timings.

>> No.64492519

The spd readings are kind of misleading in that. For example, the -46.8spd was measured over a 2 minute period - I guess anon just couldn't help gleefully measuring again and again. Assuming even a 0.5 second error in taking the measurement, the error in spd in a two minute measurement is +/-360spd (depending on how exactly you think about that error). Presumably they are just highlighting the 5spd average rate over the whole period, which is admittedly pretty decent, but to get a better picture of how stable that rate has been over time would mean digging into the individual numbers a bit more critically.

It is nowhere near a sub, especially if you have a real 60s vintage one.

It is a real tool watch in every sense of the word, it is rugged and has a lot of complications (for the time, for the 60s for something to be a chronometer and rugged)

it was never meant to be a perfectly finished polished dress watch, it was meant as a tool for men who actually need a chronometer on their wrist when doing real work outside before there was such thing as a real useful quartz chonometer

there is no real way to call any mechanical watch a useful tool vs quartz options today

they only make sense as collectables and jewelry

I was kind of assuming he was talking about a vintage moon watch, how much is a new one $4000? well it's not as nicely finished as a sub which starts at $8000 for a no-date, IMO you would have to compare it to other $4000 mechanical chronographs to be fair, and it's comparable to others of the same type (stainless mechanical $4000 chronographs) but not to watches with less mechanical complexity that are twice as much with the extra thousands spent on finishing

>> No.64493808

The finishing is better
The accuracy ratings for the movement are similar
The Vostok has a higher jewel count movement that has a longer service interval better anti-shock protection better antimagnetic properties, hand winding, and quick change date.
Looks are not objective and I don't agree
The seiko has better lume,
The crystal is not better it is a different material. The acrylic crystal of the vostok is integral to the case design which is objectivity better than seiko's skx as it can go deeper. In active situations the a crystal failure is also less likely to cause physical damage to humans or equipment.
"better quality steel' I have no idea what you mean by this the amphibia is stronger and does not rust and the steel type is not even stated anywhere so i have no idea how you could come to this conclusion unless you think Chinese steel is better than Russian steel.

>> No.64493893

The seiko is a better made and finished watch.

The Seiko is individually pressure tested and ISO certified, the russian watch is not. Pressure testing and ISO certification is not free.

10x better lume is not free

$70 is nothing, the seikos will be more likely to be more accurate out of the box without being fucked with. The seiko looks better and does not have weird childlike dials as the most common models

the seiko will carry all that extra $70 with it upon resale, that is a fact, so if you ever sell your watch you didn't even spend the extra $70

if $70 is a lot of money to you then the russian watch is a better deal, for you
