Sup /g/

I need help. Can you explain to me how 4chan manages its subdomains?
For example (=> = redirects to) :
4chan.org => www.4chan.org
but
4chan.org/g => boards.4chan.org/g

How is it possible? How can you redirect a domain to two different subdomains? Is it done automatically or manually?

It's just a status code and a header to redirect.
It can also be dynamically generated.
