Everytime I look at this piece of shit I'm reminded how dumb and ignorant I was. It feels wasteful to buy another mechanical switch keyboard but I hate having to look at this garish Christmas tree every time my computer boots up.

I was thinking of getting a board from wasd and coloring it to look similar to gun posting op's keyboard. Nearly everything on my desk is black anyway so I might even get their backlit code instead and replace the blank OS key with a Linux one.

Maybe, I'm posting to ask for suggestions.

>> No.62617192

Can you disable, change or subdue the LEDs on that keyboard? Surely it's not permanently locked in christmasmode. It would go a long way to derice it.

>> No.62617202

Maybe it's set up so that your lighting settings reset every power off unless you download the Corsair malware.

>> No.62617281

I turn the backlighting off doing boot as soon as I can. It has nothing to do with software, the LEDs starting to break only a few months after owning it. I tried to file a return from the manufacturer but couldn't find a simple phone number to call it didn't want to give them my email. Now it's too late. I bought that thing less than a month after my cat died in it caused me to make a terrible purchasing decision.

that was about 2 years ago. I hate having backlighting I can't use and I really miss having a numpad. I'm not even sure if I care about having backlighting. . .

Why not just sell it on eBay or something? I'm sure some idiot with shit taste will buy it, and just spend that money on a keyboard that actually makes you happy? Better to just lose a little bit of money and invest in something you'll actually enjoy.

I know people can be stupid but who's going to buy a RGB keyboard with broken LEDs and no disk to install the software needed to control the back lights? By the way, I haven't even begun to explain what a terrible keyboard This is. It needs to hold USB ports to work and doesn't work in the Bios. I don't think I like Cherry MX Reds that much either. Blues helped a lot nicer but they were too loud. I could hear them through my headphones are playing games. I like having some feedback noise but they went beyond that.

> no numpad
> overly loud Blue switches
> Windows logo
I appreciate your recommendation but I can already see how this keyboard could annoy me.
By the way this is what my desk looks like now. Ignore the mouse pad, I'll replace that as well someday. It's all a work in progress. The only color is from the mouse RGB light and three amiibo figures on top of my gaming console. Kind of like it this way.

>get a separate numpad
could you explain why? Once I upgrade my CPU I plan to play Dwarf Fortress at my desk instead of my laptop. A numpad is almost mandatory for that game. clear switches sound like the middle ground. I want and I have months to decide on what keyboard I want to replace my current one with. I want to upgrade the rest of my computer first.

I should mention that I'm not willing to spend more than $200 on a new keyboard. That includes aftermarket keycaps. It's very tempting to go for a black and white color scheme that would remind me of my cat. I really miss my cat.

I think I have issues.

I've had this keyboard for a couple months now. I really like it.
The weird thing is, is that it was only £50, and I never hear them mentioned.
Also weird, is that it looks almost identical to the one in the OP (and a few other ones I've seen around, specifically Filco boards).
Now, I've never seen one of these Filco boards in real life, but they seem almost identical, and I can't imagine the quality could be much better since it's so great on this board.

Perhaps it's worth trying the brown switches. I prefer blues myself but I have a board with brown switches that I use a lot since I always use that one when I'm not alone. It's got the same tactile bump as blues so you get some feedback but it doesn't have the clicking sound. And they are as good as quiet with o-rings on the keycaps.

If you want to sell your keyboard, btw, you can but I guess you'll have to cut the price somewhat. Be honest about the RGB lights being broken in the advertisement so you don''t get bugged or asked for a refund later. Someone will buy it just because it's a mechanical keyboard, if you just want one cheap and you don't care about back-light then it would probably be fine.

You should also know that there is free GNU/Linux software for Coirsair keyboards on github so it's easy to have the lights turn off early in the boot process.

That is a gorgeous goddamn 870, especially the condition of that stock - it's like new. Mine's pretty beat but hey, $70. Is it an actual older Wingmaster or a modern 870 police?

>separate numpad
That's just silly, it's as silly as those man-let tenkeyless keyboards. I am guessing you never ever do any real work in a spreadsheet or don't know how to use your keyboard. The symbols you regularly use for entering formulas such as ()= and so on would be on the keyboard and now you're moving your arm back and forth over the numpad to enter numbers? Don't you realize how idiotic that is? Using the number keys above the letters on a keyboard would be preferable, but that's slow compared to just having a real functional keyboard with a numpad instead of those silly man-let keyboards without one.

Also, the keyboard in your link claims to have standard cherry mx stem switches so if you buy it and don't like it then you can always just spend $10 or $20 on some cheap normal-looking keycap set.

I use a nordic keyboard layout myself. At home. At friends. At work. At any other place for that matter. And I'll keep using that unless I move to another country.

Nobody uses the "International" ANSI layout outside of the US. The rest of the world uses some variant of ISO, just like the rest of the world uses the metric system.

File: 37 KB, 200x200, dd4.png [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

First check if the stabilizer housing is stable itself, this seems to be worse on plate mounted ones and can cause some rattle if it is not solidly secured to the plate or has some give. Just secure it with anything really, I've used blu-tack before and it's helped. If that is not the problem then use thick lube on contact areas of plastic and the metal wire, usually where it inserts into the stabilizer stem. It doesn't necessarily need to be lube in the stem insert, some people have used foam or cotton ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7gRnpe7oyw ), the goal is just to prevent the rattle of metal on plastic. A lot of the time it just depends on the tolerances and quality of the stabilizers in the first place, but these two things will get you most of the way to silent. I've heard a lot of people say to get genuine cherry manufactured stabilizers as they supposedly rattle less or have higher tolerances. There are also screw in pcb stabilizers which are also supposed to help I guess.

there needs to be a wire connecting both sides so that the entire bar comes down together when just one side is pressed otherwise it would depress one side and lever up the other.

Fuck this stabilizer shit. I've spent way too long trying to silence all this shit just because cherry stabilizers are designed like garbage with too many moving parts. Costar is easier to get quiet but then it's a fucking pain to take on and off.

Brown or clear sounds like a middle ground I'm looking for. I thought it over and I think I'd like a keyboard backlit with only white LEDs. I'm not interested in messing around with colors or having special game specific color palettes for my keyboard anymore. I want my desk to have a "business" aesthetic, with figurines of anime and videa characters being the only thing going against it and the only significant color on my desk.

Thanks. I really miss my cat. I bought my ugly Christmas tree keyboard about a month after he passed away. I'm tempted to replace it with a keyboard that's black and white like he is but I'm afraid it would look like a piano. Now I'm thinking of looking for something with white LED backlighting. Black keyboard with white LED lighting would technically be back and white.

Its odd, I always see a large clump of hair and gunk in the same areas when I clean used mech boards.

>> No.62649672

please throw away your mac, it will improve your memeboard immensely.

>> No.62649698

better start looking on ebay, theres no way you will find a memeboard with cherry blue switches otherwise.

>> No.62649718

Actually I have trouble with it. Shift+W+Caps Lock (F13) won't work on my 2KRO Cherry keyboard, so I can't sprint and PTT at the same time

>> No.62649733

This guy gets it
all these people talking about cherry switches like they are the only things that exist. "blues, browns, reds, blacks" Like other manufactures don't have switches in the same color.

>> No.62649767

Not that guy, but I like your digital casio watch.
The legends on your keycaps look like shit though tbqh.

>> No.62649776

which browns, theres all kinds. elaborate a little.

>> No.62649788

Get a novelkeys 25 switch tester, then you can see how each switch is a meme in its own right :]

>> No.62649959

it's probably because the wire is not straight so one side ends up higher than the other, and causes some give in the connections. I would just try doing what the person showed in the video I linked. Here's some photos of the problem that may help you understand https://imgur.com/a/hVgLQ . By placing something in between the wire and the stem you tighten the connection and make sure that they are always in contact so that there is no rattling or give. If you can desolder the space switch and get out the wire, straightening it would probably be the ideal solution but I suspect that it may be hard to get exactly right.

Basically I would just try stuff some tissue in the same way as in the rhinofeed video, make sure it is in the part where wire inserts into stem.

Cherry. Bump feels fine to me.

it's been a long time since I last watched Neon Evangelion Genesis, can any of you weebs tell me if this is correct text? "EVA RACING"?

>> No.62651806

I think that's supposed to be a G but they didn't have the room to curve the thing inwards.

Yeah that's what I suspected. Shame. I like the way it looks a lot, but that "RACING' text will grate on me for sure.

Are Falbatech's Ergodoxes any good? I've been looking around and I see people saying their plates and PVC cases are often rough and poorly QCed, but it tempts me anyway because the alternative is a layered acrylic case from Profet which I hate or spending $100 more for a preassembled EZ.

>> No.62651843

I had a brainfart and forgot both RACING and RAGING have a G on the end anyway, why the fuck didn't they just do it like that?

KBD75? Isn't that just QMK?

>> No.62651997

Yes I used QMK but for some reason the keys that control the backlighting (not the underglow) do not work at all.

Also my left shift suddenly became wonky. It's the stabilizer on the pcb huh...

My Tada68 w/ Gateron blues came in finally. Also, switched out the original keycaps for others I found on the same site I ordered from (KBDfans).

>> No.62653621

but what exactly is your problem with qmk?
If you want to add a feature and don't know how, go to the supported keyboards and copy code from other boards. thats how i "learned" to add some layers

anne pro but it has some wierd problems with their Bluetooth and they don't maintain their firmware, i hope some day they release their source code and instructions so we can transform it to a decent keyboard, if not then some day my brain will try to flash it for them.

Not the end of the world but I'm tempted by RGB
>Previous/current keyboards
CM Quick Fire TK Cherry Red
Noppoo Choc mini 84 Noppoo Brown

My first mech board was the Quick Fire, I liked it more than the shitty cheap membrane board I had been using, I went with reds cause I'd never tried a mech board before and reds were advertised as the defacto "gaming switch". I used it for a while until the reds started irking me so I got a switch sampler. I didn't think I'd like the tactile switches but I really did, so I got the Noppoo because it was cheap and Iw as curious about the smaller form factor because muh mouse space.

I definitely perfer the noppoo to the Quick Fire, mainly because of the switches but also the keys feel nicer to the touch (they're allegedly POM but I have no way of confirming this, only that they feel better and don't shine like the ones on the Quick Fire.) The one problem I am having however is that the first key I press will sometimes not get registered, and having weapons grade autism this is pretty annoying. I was considering getting a Logitech G Pro board, because I do game a lot and the aforementioned autism made me very interested in them because they have less distance travel than cherry type switches and have brilliant response times. I got a sampler with a Romer-G switch and I'm not impressed by them at all, so I was thinking about the CM Masterkeys Pro S, it comes with cherry browns which I do like more than the reds.

Is it a good board? What do?

>> No.62654432

Just get a tada68, or a kbd75 if you really want F keys.

Gateron browns are better than cherry, you can also get a saber68 with mod-m memes

>> No.62654704

Thanks for the response. I do like the look of those 60%(?) boards. You probably already guessed this but I'm not an authority on keyboards by any stretch of the imagination. I did notice that the CM board I was looking at for example, makes reference to having a processor on board, to allow for macro recording on the fly and also optimal performance, is this stuff just advertising designed to fool tards like me? or is there actually any sort of practical application for them?

>> No.62654729

Just get an aluminium case and some dye-sub pbt keycaps from China. Filco is already great quality, no point in buying another keyboard.

>> No.62654734

How should I clean my Filco Majestouch Pro /g/?

>> No.62654742

If you buy used from Yahoo Auctions Japan. New Topre is a bit cheaper in Japan, but it's still not cheap.

>> No.62654766

Acrylic layer case is much better than Falba's shitty plates and PVC cases. It's either that or get Ergodox EZ or wait for next Ergodox Infinity group buy.

>> No.62654778

Basically on the fly macro recording is a meme - it usually takes 5 minutes to reprogram the board. "Optimal performance" is a complete buzzword - a good keyboard microcontroller is a 100-200Mhz chip on a $20 board https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/

If you want a programmable keyboard you need to make sure you look for that though - the tada and kbd75 are both programmable with qmk, but many keyboards aren't. Beware of gaming boards - they often lack an internal microcontroller and so have no hardware programmability, instead you have to use shitty proprietary software to "program" your keyboard. That's often very limited, and you have to have the software running in the background at all times for your settings to be applied. So make sure you go for proper, hardware programmability.

>> No.62654798

Plus I checked his album of past work, looks like he'll do stainless steel plates sandwiched between acrylic on request, which is cool.

Now I just gotta decide what I value more, the totally sexy case but exceedingly expensive case of the EZ, or Profet/Infinity's ability to be set up with the left hand as the master.

>> No.62654801

Get a KBD75 with Gateron brown switches. The custom firmware (QMK) allows for more functionality than the macros on a CM Masterkeys.

Keycap puller and some canned air.

>> No.62654855

The backlight keys. No matter what I map it to they won't work at all. I went through a lot of shipping issues to get this keyboard, including sending it back when the order was wrong.

I hate for any part of it to not function properly.

Thanks for the input dudes, so either the tada or the kbd are about equally as good? Guess I'll just pick one of them then. Thanks again dudes.
