According to the balding brit and another bunch of reviews the Unicomp feels almost as good as the IBM when typing, however they use much thinner plastic, and tolerances are way looser (stems are not held firmly in place and can twist a little, caps are not uniform in height, writings are off to one side, some caps even have plastic smudges on the bottom) than the IBM, which is surely due to the toolings being completely worn out after thirty years of use.

Hello guys, my first post here, so let's hope this goes well ;)

Here it is:

It only cost me 8£ brand new. Why is it good you ask? I shall tell you.

Well, first of all: this keyboard is from Logitech, which is undoubtedly the best keyboard manufacturer today. It is a rather common keyboard, yes; but because it is a Logitech, somehow it doesn't feel cheap. It's like the brand itself makes a crappy keyboard turn into a great one. I don't know, Logitech has always made me feel comfortable with cheaper products. The keys are superbly well distributed, and your fingers won't touch the surrounding keys like some other ones I've tried. The keys are also not very soft, nor very hard to press down on. You know, this keyboard makes it just right, so that you can actually take advantage of the impulse that the rebounding keys give you.

This keyboard makes you feel like gravity is actually working WITH you, rather that against you.

Another thing I absolutely love about it, is the space bar. It is just the right size, and not too small or too big like on some other crappy keyboards from other manufacturers. The space bar is the most balanced key in the whole keyboard, it sits right at the center, and you can actually use it without looking at the keyboard. I mean, that's just brilliant design. It's an USB keyboard. This makes it perfect for use with modern computers, and even laptops and netbooks. No more using that old crappy PS/2 port. We're in 2017, people. I could be here all day, but in the end, I just wanted to share with you my experience with this marvelous piece of peripheral engineering.

I recommend this keyboard to anyone.

MX Red is much smoother and softer, lighter to the press. Bottoms out with much less force, but actuates about halfway through the press while membrane usually requires you to bottom out for an activation.

Personally I went from a rubberdome membrane keyboard to an MX Red board and I found reds to be way too easy to press for quite some time, I still have unwanted keypresses, but I've slowly adapted my typing style and I punch the keys much less now.

It's absolutely an improvement you'll notice if you decide to make the switch, but I'd still recommend you test mech switches before buying anything, as I made the mistake of buying MX Red without knowing what they felt like and I actually don't like them all that much and I wish I had gotten MX Blues or something different instead.

I found a used board using these switches for only $25, so I'm getting it because it's a great deal not for the switches.

I tend to punch the shit out of my keys is that going to be an issue you think?

>> No.62560027

It's not really going to be an issue, you're not going to break any switches or anything.
Typing style really isn't affected unless your switch demands bottoming out to register a keypress. And in your case, it doesn't matter.
Mechanical switches are more durable than rubberdomes so you shouldn't be afraid of damaging them in any way unless you're literally smashing the keyboard with a hammer or against the desk or something.

>> No.62560060

>membrane wear out fast
The rubber ages out and becomes stiff. They only have on/off actuation unlike switches which can have a spring designed to cushion and ideally prevent you from bottoming out. And you want to avoid bottoming out, otherwise your fingers end up having to absorb that impact of however hard you're hitting the key, instead of simply rebounding and heading to the next key.

>> No.62560138

I still think this is only an issue with cheaper keyboards. Even my old af HP OEM keyboard works fine to this day, but it's not my daily driver.

Anyway, WASD sells a cap-less TKL with MODs so you don't have to use their jizz coated custom ABS caps if you don't want to. I almost got it but wanted to program keys so I got a Saber68 instead.

romer gs are memes tho. They were designed as a meme switch first with functionality second. They even brag about it on the promo page

Yeah, I heard about that. Not sure what I'll do, but I'll figure it out or just suffer with the current keycaps.

I really didn't want to post this, but holy shit are you suffering from the Dunning Kruger effect. Ad hominem literally means "to the man", and is a fallacy that focuses on the person making the argument instead of the argument being made, not a non sequitur you fucking retard, holy shit.

So here's an ad hominem, you're a fucking retard for buying Romer-G and should promptly leave for making a fool of yourself. They feel WORSE than Cherry Browns, and you're stuck with their thin shitty ABS keycaps forever. Enjoy your gaymer toy, you child.
