It felt bland and out of touch.

I own a 2nd Gen Monster that has the 4R36 movement, and having a watch without handwinding is becoming an issue, since i cannot take too many watches with me. Also, it seems that every mechanical watch i keep is either a handwound watch or an auto that can also do so.

Plus, it's the second SKX i've ever owned which i'm selling for the exact same reason as the last one. I'd rather have something like a NY0040 or a SRP777. Since both of them have more character.

Finding this exact one could be very difficult if not impossible since it is a vintage watch (Lord Matic Special) made sometime in 1974. But there are many like it and they do not cost too much. MAKE SURE you get the "Special" if you are going to buy one, also be sure to get it serviced.

Blue is pretty great, the 5216 is probably my favourite watch, but I also like green. Which is why I own a SARB017.

>> No.57132455

I'm really tempted, the blue is up for auction and the green is for sale outright. And since the auction ends in 5am in i could miss both, that being said assuming i'll put too little into sniping it.

Basically put, either i go safe or i gamble.

hello /watch/men, I would like to get my babby's first watch.

I looked at some Vostok Amphibias and Komandirskies, but I don't like the wacky graphics they print on the dials. Seikos are horribly overpriced around where I live.

Out of recently one was a bracelet extension, another one was a crystal replacement, and there was a 7009 service a while ago, the rest I don't remember. I always have to recommend a full service, but customers rarely take it. Usually it goes like this:
>Hello, I'd like to regulate my watch, I had it for eight years and it's been running great but lately it's been losing 3 minutes a day.
>This is a pretty nice Seiko 5 sir, when was the last time it was serviced?
And that's when for some reason they decide to walk away with their $60 watch and have it run till it falls apart since a $40 complete service is somehow "not worth it".

That shark mesh looks glorious on the amphibia, but please, please, don't put leather straps on divers, it's tacky and out of place, like putting an F1 spoiler to a 90's corolla, maybe you think it make them look "classier", but it's the opposite.

I know that diver watches have actually transcended from being tough tool watches into being considered a little more dressy nowadays, but putting leather straps on them makes them feel mangled.

Anything else besides lether is ok as a diver strap: Resin, Nato, Zulu, Perlon, milanese mesh, President, Oyster, Engineer bracelets, etc.

Leather in a diver watch is a huge no-no.

Would you wear oxford shoes with an adidas tracksuit? You can for sure, but you'll look like someone cosplaying as a lame ironic slavic GTA IV character.

You mean time mesuring accuracy?
For mechanicals, get a swiss one.
For Quartz, get either a high Hz quartz, or termoregulated.
You can get an Atomic radio clock regulated too.

But Nowadays, the prefered thing about wrist watches is appreciation of it's horological and artisanal qualities tho. For affordables it's aesthetics and quality even if mass-made. A wristwatch is a tool but also an accesory.

A $3 quartz bobsponge watch is way more accurate than any high end swiss mechanical tho. So that's it, priorities for wristwatches had changed lots since the quartz tsunami.

Rodina has good reputation for the price, besides being a chinese mechanical.

Others would say that Daniel Wellington, or Nixon, Skagen, but the word is they are made in china and sold as not. The QC is higher from the average chinese quartz, so caveat emptor.

Other that I don't really know how good they are, just suspecting they are good from what I read: tsovet, braun, uniform wares, mondaine.

OH, I remember, Bulova has some bauhaus-like also!!!

I have never purchased one myself, just been tempted, but there are a few 'brands' you can find. You could probably look around on wus, ebay, google, etc. and find something. I paid about $104 USD for the watch, and then $150 CAD to have it overhauled at the /wt/ Toronto Watch Guru dude (he also does mail-in if you cannot find someone local to service your vintage Seiko). Mine was in really rough shape when I got it, crystal was smashed and had to be replaced, but I bought it for dat dial. Less flashy colours can usually be had for roughly the same price, sometimes as low as $80. The Lord Matic name has zero recognition or prestige, but the 52 caliber movements are among the best ever made. It's amazing what they are capable of when serviced.

>no penis on the dial

Will never achieve meme status, but my guess is there are some similarities with the Type II movements. Is it a jeweled movement?

Oh God yes, do it. Subs are horribly common and have sort of become the default Bay Street (or Wall Street) douchebag watches, and two tone subs make you look like even more of a douche. Milgauss is cool. And you will never need to worry about getting a degausser for it.

When I was in university smartwatches were not yet a thing, but when I wrote my professional accountant exams, they banned all watches. EVERYTHING. I came to the exam with a Komandirskie and they forced me to take it off. I imagine universities will be doing the same thing before long.

Also, as someone who proctered exams, I can see you little cunts and I know when you're cheating. Whether it's a girl with IFRS tricks stuffed in her boobs or some manlet with an Apple Watch, we can see you. And whether or not you get caught will just depend on how cruel we're feeling that day.

Just try and think about how much skill it takes to design and build a spring powered mechanical device that can keep time, be wound automatically by movement, resist shocks, and remain 99.99% accurate (+/- 5s/d) without a so how transistor or outside signal.

Then contemplate that multiple watch makers had figured out how to volume produce such mechanical marvels by the thousands by the 1970s.

Honestly the mechanical watch mechanism is one of the greatest feats of mechanical engineering ever achieved by mankind, and here you are wondering why some of us still find them fascinating while you stare at some boring but practical G-Shock.

Why do people like vintage cars? 1911 handguns? Because some of us appreciate what went into making them.

>mfw fully serviced LM special for $150 cash if this happens

I still love this Type II. Fuck, why can nobody bring back this 70s look? And why do modern watches need to be so fucking huge? Even my girlfriend, who doesn't know shit about watches, has commented that the older 36mm and 38mm pieces look more "proportional" and "tasteful". Did I just get lucky, or is there a fundamental disconnect between how girls think of modern men's watches and how men thin of them?

Yeah it fucking sucks. We have a family friend who wrote the LSAT in the 1980s, the guy brought two watches to that (a quartz which has been lost to time and a mechanical Seiko diver that he still has). Nowadays, good luck getting even one in.

Likely cheaper, since all it needs is to get the calendar fixed. Guess that's an incentive for him to work on it, since he knows that he has customers looking for these.

What is the most accurate, robust and shock-resistant seiko movement? The 6R?

What about affordable movements in general?

>> No.57157686

Depends on the price range really.

But in terms of bang for buck you'd be hard pressed to beat the 6R15 on the SAR models.

>> No.57157764

9F is 5-10 seconds per year depending on the version, has a 50 year service interval, and being quartz is far more shock resistant than any mechanical although obviously not as much as a digital. Relatively affordable too, at least in terms of other >$1000 watches.

>> No.57157777

Vintage digital of course. But if you mean mechanical, currently everything below the Marinemaster and GS line uses a 7S-derivative movement, so robustness is generally the same.

When it comes to accuracy I believe it's 7Sxx<4R3x<6R1x.

Assuming you mean mechanical movements, the Grand Seiko movements and the new out of production in Seikos 4s15 (and its 52xx predecessor) would typically be much more accurate than the 6r, 4r or 7s movements.

In general, more high end movements tend to have better shock resistance as well, but I can't find any sources confirming that the 9s and 4s have notably better shock resistance than a 6r would.

It's already well known that the 7s and 4r are not very good in terms of shock resistance.

>> No.57160395

I've personally never been impressed with Hirsch. I find that RIOS puts out a better product for less money.

The 7S26 is not rugged. It's really kind of a piece of shit. The hand-winding Vostoks are more along the lines of your "rugged, impossible to kill" watches.

I wore a moderately "dressy" Seiko 5 as a university student, and it never really looked out of place with street wear. You would be perfectly OK with a SARB033, although you might fret about scratching it. A SARG007 or SARG005 may be worthwhile to you as well, since they have the same 6R15 movement.

If you want something you can beat the hell out of and not worry about, Vostok Amphibia.

Interestingly, all those movements are derived from the 7000 series produced by Daini. With the exception of the 6R they are also all worse than the 7000 series.

I want to do a 4S15 swap in muh SARB. How can I go about doing this and why is the 4S so fucking impossible to find?

>> No.57160443

>The 7S26 is not rugged. It's really kind of a piece of shit
It's nice, simple and cheap workhouse movement based on a very reliable design. It's true that the Vostok 24XX cal is much more rugged and shockproof but you shouldn't diss on the 7S26's longevity and reliability.

>With the exception of the 6R they are also all worse than the 7000 series.
Mostly the B and C types, because of the new troublesome balances. The A type movements from the 7SXX/4R/6R families were more similar and equally robust as the earlier 7002/7005/7009 movements.

>I want to do a 4S15 swap in muh SARB
So swapping a 7XXX series based movement to a movement that's completely different, which has a different stem, accepts different diameter hands, different dial and day/date alignment and is hard to find?

It's easier to just find a 5216 (Or 5206) LM special and service it instead of trying to nigger rig a 4S15 into a SARB, since the 4S15 is a remake of the 5216.

>I find that RIOS puts out a better product for less money.
I'm surprised to know there is another RIOS fan besides me on /wt/

I can't deny it's rather ugly.

>> No.57160854

>> No.57160897

Timex would be okay for that.

I wouldn't recommend it as it's basically made in the Mexico of Asia, instead of in China.

A Seiko 5 with a display caseback is a pretty neat option, despite being a 6bph instead of the annoying Timex ticking.

Should have mentioned, to the naked eye. Obviously the GS is far superior in that aspect and also vastly more expensive.

>> No.57161176

Then any sweat forming under the bracelet should easily be dealt with by evaporating when you move it.

Unless your entire wrist is sweating all over then you're fucked.

>> No.57161259

Surprisingly, it seems that you may be able to put a 6r15 dial on a 4s15 movement, and the hands are known for sure to swap, so doing a 4s15 swap for a 6r15 is apparently possible, though it won't be easy, or cheap.

I suggest searching for "4s15" "6r15" "swap" and looking into the matter yourself.

Of course, the problem is that finding a donor 4s15 is going to cost so much that you won't be able to justify pulling the movement out of the donor watch unless you get extremely lucky and drink a fucked watch with a good movement and snag it for cheap.

Not that I keep an eye out for such an opportunity to swap a 4s15 into my Brightz SDGM003 or anything...

>> No.57161277

Buy that 90 dollar invicta and gut the movement

>> No.57161537

Upon further reading, assuming you can create a proper spacer it is somewhat possible since the hands are interchangeable and the dials fit the 4S15 movement. It'll be quite a monetary commitment though, but if you want to create the ultimate SDGM003 it's worth a shot. I'm not exactly sure if the stems are compatible though.

Perhaps try to use a 3D printer to create a plastic spacer?

>> No.57161905

Are you perhaps mixing up the 4r35 with the 4s15? They are totally unrelated movements, and I can assure no Invicta has ever had a 4s15...

The issue is finding a donor cheap enough to justify pulling the 4s15 out of it more so than the other issues, which I believe are surmountable.

>> No.57162070

Counting that Seiko fanatics grab them for almost any reasonable yet slightly high price as soon as they appear on the market? I wouldn't count on it.
