You know that since I'm a very small operation I can't store large rolls of metal. Most the scrap I get I use to make small things to patch up stuff.

Also the biggest problem would be cooling the thing. Right now I just use a lot of WD40 and if I'm gonna be milling a large chunk of aluminum I need to get a dedicated coolant system which is also another grand

I think I'm going to get the E-Element keyboard

I know there's a cheaper version that's not hot-swappable, but that cheaper version for whatever reason has a different font that I dont' like and it will cost more to buy an extra keycap set than to just buy the upgraded version with the font that I like.

Is there a glaring reason to not get this keyboard?

>> No.56536963

I can think of many reasons but as your first? Sure why not. Just replace those damn caps try getting a slick abs set or a cheap but nice pbt set
I just dont trust the switches but never tried the blue otms

>> No.56536984

the RGB leds are probably just on/off so white (red+green+blue) will probably look worse (tinted and limited color spectrum) compared to if you had plain white leds. and go for a keyboards with PBT keycaps imo even though it will be more expensive

>> No.56537028

I didn't mean to say that the 2nd font was pretty, I meant to say it was non-stencil. If it's non stencil, doubleshot, and cheap, then that means that stencil fonts are not a necessity for cheap chink brands with double shot keycaps.

However, I don't even know if the 2nd example is really doubleshot. I think they can use the other processes to get shinethrough keys, and it doesn't say on the link.

I'm not trying to pit against you or anything, I'm just still convinced that stencil fonts are used just for the aesthetics of the keyboard, and that certain group of aesthetics is reaching out towards 12-year-olds.

>> No.56537204

hm, that's a good point. That prompted me to look for other versions, then I saw a white-backlit version for $40, I don't know how I missed it

If I get this white backlit one, then I'll have money to buy better keys. I'm looking up more black normal-font shinethrough keys now

I don't think you need it for typing, since you won't be using large combinations of buttons. But I think someone told me that the way the keyboard or computer works is that if the signals come in too close together then they'll be considered overlapping and can get ignored if you only have 2KRO.

For games it definitely matters, because you'll be using button combinations all the time

>Preferred switch type
Not sure, I have a Cherry MX switch tester and the only one I ruled out is Blacks. Leaning towards Blues or Browns.
>Form factor
No strong preference, I like backlit.
>Previous/current keyboards
None, this will be first mech.

I like those key pullers but they are not very durable (especially with DSA)
If you don't have another one on hand, I'd suggest 2, or a metal one

Jesus christ how I wish I wasmt born in this shithole, you have to ship everything from other countries here.

Are blues really uncomfortable or just noisy?

I plan on converting a mx black board to blue; blacks are a bit too stiff for my taste and I'd like some tactile and auditive feedback.

>> No.56551909

Loved the comfort of the blues, wasn't really fond of the noise, even in my comfy home.
If you want tactile switches but no click, I'd recommend clears over browns. I have the latter and hate those.

Instead of bombing themself and raping someone every couple months, they're gonna break something like bus stop, stole your phone or beat you up at night and fill whole bus with stench of a homeless guy mixed with puke-flavor beer every other day.

Whichever you prefer I guess.

Now imagine whole country genetically being like minority

Anyway, not to offtop much, are there any swith testers with soldered pins etc ready to program and use? Like a numpad with every button different switch. It seems like a very simple idea and I've seen couple people here mentioning that as their project but I've never seen one ready to buy

Any linear switch or MX Browns.

>> No.56553946

I'd say it's worth at least 10$ just for the layout and look, even if it's not mechanical. Does it click when you press it?

>> No.56553948

I think it might be the age, but it feels like you are typing on a sponge. There is no tactile feedback what so ever, which even rubber domes have. Luckily the keyboard beeps every time a switch actuates. Also it has some of the nicest key caps I've ever seen in my life. They are over 30 years old and when I first found it they were covered with 10 years of dust and grease, but they still look brand new and feel great

>> No.56554165

>> No.56554486

No idea. I do have an old IBM model M and its lots of fun. No issues with PS/2 or faulty rivets. I got it of ebay for $65. I hear these have worse plunger quality, but again I don't know.

>> No.56554527

Most likely, yes. It looks like a Keytronic.

>> No.56554591

I bought one to use as spare parts if any of my model m's needed new springs or caps, they feel very similar to a real model m but aren't built nearly as well.

>> No.56554668

Its one of the Keytronic rubber domes

>> No.56554695

I might be spewing bullshit here, but I think there's high chance this is mechanical, since the layout is so old
