the 3 o'clock/date window/still putting the fucking military time and ruining that whole circle is the real dealbreaker for me. i like to think of the apple-like font more as an armitron-like font but i don't have anything against apple and their products that just twerk. the strap would be in the trash as quickly as i could get it off. i was also toying with the idea of a coward c5 slimline but wish it were 37-38mm instead of 40

also not a huge fan of their marketing but it's a cheap handwound that would be better than the only hw i currently have, a curry hmt

what were we talking about again? hamilton? yeah, they suck now. even sadder when you see the amazing stuff hamilton used to make when they were an actual american watchmaker.

>> No.56348931

I used to have a parnis, the finish was actually really good. The only down side was the movement they used was massive and the watch was too bulky for me so I gave it away. A parnis with a miyota might be interesting, get the parnis finish but not the usual parnis bulk.

>And finally, how useful is the 6-band atomic timekeeping thing?
It just means that you won't need to set the watch's time due to error if you're in range of one of the 6 atomic radios it's able to sync with, because it'll generally be correct to about 1 ms slow for every 100 miles away you are from the signal. You'll still need to adjust it every time you change timezones.

So it saves you a couple time adjusts per year.

>> No.56355942

>every 100 miles
~185 miles

>> No.56355950

You fucked up

>> No.56356080

I was afraid of that. I still like the way it looks and all, but why the fuck couldn't they make it a bit smaller. Then again, I've seen actual soldiers wear those in various photos from war zones and shit, so I guess it's not so big as to be impractical.

Thanks. So basically I could just skip the top of the line versions and go for cheaper ones that are identical in every way except for not having the timekeeping thing. I assume the watches are good enough to keep the time reliably enough with the occasional manual adjustment by using an online atomic clock?

>> No.56356200

Yes. It's only a couple times a year you would adjust it unless you're trying to maintain sub-second accuracy. And if you're in Asia or middle East outside if the China band, Canada too far away from Colorado, or anywhere in the southern hemisphere it will not work.

Thanks for the input, I was afraid that it'd be on the impractical side of big. Just out of curiosity, what watches do soldiers generally wear during combat missions? Surely if a G-Shock is that bulky, there must be some other watch that is both tough and reliable, yet sensibly sized.

>Surely if a G-Shock is that bulky, there must be some other watch that is both tough and reliable, yet sensibly sized.

Mostly the blocky nature of said model is the biggest issue with it, plenty use the 6900 series Gshocks and the 8900 series are relatively common.

Though the bulk are regular Casio's, which are very abundant, and other simple quartz watches. (along with the local SKX clone)

I walk around with either a Seiko diver (Monster, SKX, soon a Neo-turtle) or an Amphibia. And a good buddy of mine occasionally wears a soviet era Dirskie that i cleaned up and regulated.

We own the servers for this cesspool.

>> No.56374678

Goddamn that is truly fucked. Welcome to the world of water damaged dial and full disassemble required.

It's gonna be pricey. HOWEVER, even if you're traveling the cost will pretty much depend of the amount of time you let it marinate like that before a watchmaker can clean it.

If I were you I'd either take it to a local watchmaker right now or send it back home and ask someone the favor to take it to a watchmaker where you live, depending on how much time you're going to remain where you actually are.

After that, get drunk and forget about it.

P.s DON'T try to dry it exposing it to the sun or to another source of heat, or you'll damage the dial furtherly.

Yeah, well no one makes navy blue lug adapters for the 5610, so I'm using the stainless ones until I can RIT dye some white shapeways lug adapters navy blue.

And, as I said, no one has navy premium NATOs in 24mm with brushed hardware at the moment either.

So basically that's the best I can do for a navy 5610 on a Nato at the moment.

I'm one of those people.

Over three years, I've been sent on over a hundred operations under a variety of climates to search and rescue missing travelers in the remotest places of the planet. My daily life was crawling in the mud, climbing snowy peaks, crossing frozen rivers, wading through jungles, jumping from waterfalls, running through thick forests, diving to the ground, and felling on just about anything that exists. I also got caught in an avalanche on the slope of a volcano, I jumped from and crashed in all kinds of vehicles including trains and planes, I've been into countless fights, shot at, mortared at, and I've been exposed to corrosive chemicals more than once.

My terrorist watch only died a week before I retired, and that was only the battery. The strap had to be replaced four times though, yet it saved me from injuries every single time. I actually wore a Timex as my main watch, with the terrorist Casio on my right arm serving as a GMT and date reference, and both are still ticking.

G-Shocks are just overengineered, and considering the design of standard Casios has continuously improved, modern ones are now just as overengineered.

Operators with G-Shocks are just cringeworthy, especially how they always look so brand new while everyone else has beat up F91Ws.

Or better yet, buy something else. If you're into big square chronograhs you may like pic related. Although it's not truly a square it has a similar case, but the watch is far better imho.

New for 1500 usd in chrono24.

I am not sure what happened to my old one. I kept it in my pocket every day and used it a couple times every week. One day it just stopped resetting. I liked it a lot before it broke, the winding was very satisfying and it made a nice ticking noise.
