Why has no one made triangle switches yet?

>> No.56334622

is it a viable option to get a white pbt keycap set and dye keycaps? won't it look "bad", like you obviously dyed them instead of buying legit colored keycaps, like if the color is uneven or it just looks crude somehow with a weird texture or an unnatural oversaturated color or something

I currently have browns but I'd like to try stiffer keys. Heard that greens are harder blues and have a "lower tone" sounding click. I also need a new keyboard for my massdrop miami keycaps coming soon.

Any input on the quality of this keyboard? I was hoping to find something with a metal frame or top but I found those are limited to rgb gaymer keyboards and other much more expensive options.

probably the questtest of the cherry swtiches, but the pok3r gives off a "ping" which you could find annoying.

i am typing on a pok3r w/ clears right now and i don't mind it, but that's subjective

>And if so can I make them quieter?
o-rings would stop you from bottoming out which would make it quieter, but also change the feel of the switch

>> No.56335091

You can do plenty of things to make a keyboard louder or quieter. I know some of professionals who use them. There are some try their best to quieten them down (to the point of being quieter than rubber domes), and some that just don't give a shit.

If you wanted to silence your board you could add o-rings, lube (sometimes), change switches, use damping pads (sometimes) etc.

>> No.56335708

Hey /g/, I've got a problem with my Poker II that's been shitting me for a while, the spacebar gets stuck down in some situations, it's more likely when I press nearer to the stabilizers rather than the switch itself and it even worse when I try to press it down softly or don't immediately release the key after pressing.
The problem had been getting worse lately so I tried to old heat and bend trick because the spacebar came a little bent, which I should've asked for a replacement from MassDrop when I did receive the order but I had already fart-arsed around getting some missing keys from them and so couldn't be fucked. Anyway, the straighter my spacebar is the worse the problem seems to be, so I tried bending it back into place the spacebar cracked, but somehow fixed the problem.

I've noticed that the problem is completely non-existent when I don't force the spacebar onto the stabilizers all the way, so I'm suspecting that they're the culprit in this. I've been looking to order a replacement spacebar from SP but am unsure whether it'll fix the problem at all and whether I should replace the stabilizers as well. Only problem with replacing said stabilizers is that the wire that connects the 2 on the Poker II seems to be custom made and doesn't have the bump in the middle of the wire or extended hooks on either side.

whaddya think /g/? Fixable or just live with a spacebar that looks a bit fucked?

Phosphorescent paper doesn't magically make light, it needs to take in light and then re-emit it later on, the backs of your keys are pretty dark.

And it's gonna be a bitch to take all the keys off and put them back on a buckling spring board.

And the light's gonna be too dim to illuminate the gaps between your keyboard anyway.

First Mechanical Keyboard, Ducky Shine 5, brown switches, good idea?

>> No.56339515

It depends is sound an issue or not?
These switches get very loud. With my buckling spring you can close the door and still hear me typing in the other room.

If you want a ducky keyboard and sound isn't an issue then get it with tactile switches like clears or blues (blues are louder cause they are clicky). If you want a heavier switch then get greys and greens respectively. I don't think ducky sells any keyboards with green switches but they do sell greys.

Now if sound is an issue then get a topre keyboard. There are topre clones like royal kludge if your budget is limited

>> No.56339567

>what kind of switch is best for typing and programming
with a tactile switch you can feel the actuation point which means you can quickly switch to another key. It did make my typing faster by an extra 10 words per minute, though it may differ for you

They ship from Tennessee so it wouldn't take too long. I was in a similar position to you but I decided to spend the extra 30 bucks and bought it. The keycaps are nice thick PBT whic feels soft to the touch and the plate used to mount the switches is very sturdy for being made of plastic. The PCB is pretty heft and the ARM processor means you can do a lot of stuff with the macros. Every switch has the ability to be set as a macro and with 3 layers there's a lot of stuff you can do. So is there any easy way to paint a WASD keyboard white? Would look much better with my NKPC keycaps.

And you're a simpleton at the wheel of a luxury car. Leave.

>> No.56347185

there's a case painting guide on geekhack that for some reason won't let me link it here, but I'm sure you can google it

Pretty much my only choices are a Wal-Mart that's too small for its own good, an Office Max that mainly only has gaming keyboards and the local colleges 'tech corner' store that's pretty much all cheap keyboards and keyboard/mouse bundles, and chances are only one of those MIGHT have mechanicals. I wouldn't hold my breath for that place.
I was thinking of getting one of those testers with some pc parts when I finally get the chance to build my new pc. Probably one of those or whatever is close to that is on Amazon.
If it's got a good return policy, great.
Although I probably won't return it. Anything probably feels better than a mush membrane thing I'm using right now.

Also, PBT really does drive the price up, doesn't it. I'd be fine with getting an ABS keyboard and replacing it with PBT later if it came to that, with how all over the place my estimated build budget has been.

Hey I just got an idea though

How stupid would it be if I learned with dvorak instead since this is sort of a fresh start, why not go guns blazing with it

>> No.56347234

well PBT keycap sets cost around 50-60 bucks and most are sold out. Might as well save some money now then spending more later

Whats there to say. They're poorly built but cheap, just like everything from China

If you can get it cheap enough that when it breaks you don't mind buying a new one then go ahead.
Honestly I've seen rubberdomes with vastly better build quality for around the same price
