So I fell for the King Seiko meme and got this 5246-6010. Paid around $500. I was hoping the case wouldn't be polished to shit, but it looks like it might be, compared to the pictures I found. Other than that and the slightly stained dial, everything seems fine. Gotta take it to the watchmaker to inspect the movement later today. Opinions?

I like, you usually have to fork out heaps for chronometer ones

I was searching far and wide for a good King seiko I could afford but got a lm special to scratch my itch

Hope it turns out well

>> No.54974855

I picked it up a few weeks ago when my summer bonus came in. I'm no expert by any means, but i do like it so far. It was actually recommended to me one of these threads. These are the only threads on /g/ where i'll take you guys' word for it, because i don't know enough to say otherwise.

>> No.54974868

"A russle" as in prone to failure? Or a pain to set? The day date sets like any ETA automatic. I thought it was the 56xx series that has a date wheel failure issues.

On another note, the I thought this movement is supposed to be hacking. The second hand doesn't stop when I pull the crown out to the 2nd position. It stops though when I turn the crown clockwise (adjusting time backward), which counts as hacking???

>> No.54974909

I hope so too. My first vintage purchase and non-ETA auto.

>> No.54974960

If you aren't a fan you can always sell it with no net loss

I think you will enjoy it though

If you are willing to pay $500 you can pick up an absolutely mint lm special for way less than that. Very similar if not the same movement, just not chronometer certified

>> No.54974964

Well if you're a desk jockey I don't see why they can't be. Though style-wise, maybe the Stowa Marine (deck watch instead of bauhaus but still kind of similar) might be more versatile.

>> No.54974972

Pain to set. It's the 56xx series which is doomed. I find that if anything is going to go wrong with a Seiko it'll be the fucking day date.

This is probably more of an /fa/ prejudice than anything real though

I do like it and the rarity tickles my fedora. I'm a little disappointed by the polishing, but I'll probably learn to live with it. If it keeps good time (advertised as serviced last year) and the movement inspection turns out kosher, I'd most likely keep it.

A pretty generic Orient, and F-91W for sports and shit. I want to step up to the next tier of watches and going above ~$1500 isn't going to be a "comfortable" option for years.

Club seems to be pretty versatile when it comes to straps and I really like that in a daily wearer. Sinn 556 is the other big competitor for me right now, although it's starting to feel a bit too plain after looking at Nomos dials.

It SHOULD be a hacking movement. If it doesn't stop then there is something wrong with the hacking lever (or someone forgot to put it back in after servicing, I've seen that too).

I sorta knew the story behind this but I didn't know how cheap you got it. Every time I've decided to buy NOS goods, I've paid NOS prices.

I'm personally looking for a two-tone sunburst dial version. These Tissots don't seem to have the premium that other old Swiss stuff carries, probably because the modern brand is such a piece of shit.

I personally prefer the old second hand, but I have no qualms with the new one. They're both light years ahead of the fugly arrow-shaped one on standard models. The other difference between old and new neptunes are thicker lume indices.

Continuinbg from last thread (these sure run to end quickly)
>My comparison was not rooted in the argument but the presentation and tone of it. You do raise a good point though. Its why I prefer vintages. Watches were usually purpose-built before The Quartz Crisis. Now more effort is spent in branding rather than the engineering and design behind watches. This is apparent with the proliferation of "fashion" brands.
Well, my tone was an attempt at least of self irony. An art that takes a lot of practice I see. Nevertheless we do seem to be in general agreement.

>As for what I want a watch to be. I prefer old fashion mechanical timekeeping purely for aesthetic reasons. I like a sweeping second hand. If somehow Citizen could somehow combine the smooth sweep of its precisionist movements with the solar charging of its eco drives and most importantly place it in a watch that did not look like complete ass I would be a happy man.
A sweeping had is also aesthetic to me and also advantageous mechanically when carrying a relatively heavy tritium tube. A fully mechanical movement would be elegant though I would prefer the precision of quartz.

>The flightmaster 910 is probably my favorite omega design. It would be what I would buy if I found myself in need of a chronograph. If I had a chance to buy a relatively unmolested example in person I would surely snap it up.
That is also a favourite of mine and it intrigues me how they managed to make a rather busy face become eminently readable. A reimagination of this design is well overdue.

It has its quirks but if you can make use of its functions then it's an ideal and very accurate watch, especially for travel. Water resistance is a minor concern but it isn't a diving watch.

That was the first-generation one like mine here. This one though got fitted with the gen2 pushers and bezel and crown by whomever had it before me. Some people have had their all-original first-generation X-33s for nearly 20 years without any parts needing replaced or repaired.

The "Skywalker" is the third-gen X-33 and it's an all-new design instead of the minor revision of the gen1 design making the gen2.

Not worth it, innit?

like the rest of 4chan this board is contrarian central. You should have been here when the Shaving threads and straight/safety razor shilling was allowed.

Are the Junkers and Messerschmidt watches in any way related to the companies from the 30s/40s or did somebody buy the name and sells junk?

What is that blueish dot at the 12 of the GMT dial?

Some can be rather affordable and also professional in the true meaning of the word. Pic related.

>the atomic version
A bit strange, isn't it, that a Japanese company names a watch "atomic"?

I know this isn't the best place to ask, but could anyone help me identify this Omega bracelet??

It's an authentic one, but I can't find the exact reference and neither the watch that used to came with it.

You Australians seem to be happily shitposting away while we sleep.

Speedmasters are sort of like luxury cars. They take a massive hit the second you take them outside the AD. $2300 is actually only sort of an OK price for a used one. Someone on this board was talking about having found a NOS version for $700 from an estate sale- now THAT is a screaming deal.

Copper sulfate capsule. It absorbs moisture and changes color as it does so.

I'm still upset I lost my Rodina. But not upset enough to buy another one.

To replace the Rodina I ordered this Bauhaus style watch through Kickstarter. Should be getting it next month. I'm sure /wt/ will talk shit but I like the style and the nautical theme.

Leather NATOs can wear well on some watches. It's all about style more so than comparative cost.

>tfw bullies

I do it because metal bands never fit me well, they also dig into my desk and scratch my laptop.

And no leather because I sweat like a pig and would destroy it in one day.

NATOs are the most comfortable and practical for me.

I'm fully aware my speedmaster would look much better on fancier straps, but so be it
