Any advice about the AK33?
basically, I'm looking for a 75% with this keyboards exact layout; it's divine.

If there is a better, hopefully cheaper 75%, I'd love to be pointed in the right direction.
It will be babby's 1st, so I'm undecided about clickclack, but if blue switches are a better choice than black, I've no qualms.

The only detail I am unsure of is replacing the keycaps - how do I find out what ones are compatible woth this model?

They are two different things.

The b.mini x2 is a korean custom, and one of the better ones at that. There isn't really anything above it. It has underlighting, backlighting, good switches, a good case, full reprogramability, and is actually compatible with after market keysets. All told it would probably cost you $200.

The ak33 on the other hand is a dirt cheap chinese board. Not programable and with shit keycaps (that you can't replace due to non-standard layout). The switches are a no-name company, knockoffs of chinese knockoffs. So expect grittiness, chattering or other issues with them. I wouldn't be surprised to see LED failures quite soon after purchase, either. Oh and you will probably have 0 warranty support.

The ak33 is probably hit or miss depending on the switches. If you just want something cheap to get away from nasty rubber domes, it is a fine choice. If you want something good, look elsewhere. I am not saying buy the b.mini, it is a very expensive board. But there is probably some middle ground between the two choices. Haven't really kept an eye out on the layout so I couldn't tell you.

Stupid question incoming

I recall you need a USB to PS2 adapter for a mechanical keyboard to use NKRO properly.

Now I got a Rosewill RGB80 that doesnt seem to play well with the adapter. Should USB be sufficient?

>> No.54707824

AFAIK the choc mini uses Gaterons, yes. Gateron Browns supposedly are smoother (like all Gaterons) and have a high and more pronounced bump.

I didn't know NKRO was dependent on the interface, but apparently you're right. It has nothing to do with wether it's mechanical or not, just with USB. Some USB keyboards achieve NKRO by acting as a USB hub with several keyboards attached.
So if your keyboard is one of those great, if not you might be limited to something like 10KRO. Is this really an issue though? Do you press 10 keys simultaneously often?

I just came to this thread randomly, so it's all about custom keyboards?

I'm using an old razer blackwidows from like, 2012, and after checking each pic of this thread, no offense, but i still find mine better looking,

yea yea yea it's not about the style but about how good it works but i can only see the first aspect there.

tried to fill the buyer template

1) Budget
My old one costed 140$, so i believe up to 140$ once again

2) Location

3) Preffered switch type
The razer was my only Mech Kboard and the switch are blue if i remember correctly, no idea.
I checked the switches pic(http://i.imgur.com/5uKCsvv.png), but hard to say what I would prefer since i'm not even sure of what I have.
the razer got some really big noise when i click, but i guess it's just about hearing or not the click? I wear headphones so idc that much.
maybe a stiff medium will feet? I don't get what is "rare" btw

4) Layout

5) Form factor
- 100% - full keyboard with function keys, navigation section and numpad,
I don't need the keys that are generally above the arrows.

6) Backlight
Do I want LED? ofc i do

7) Previous/current keyboard

Razer BlackWidow ultimate edition 2012, i like it, but never tried something else so can't tell you really, open to something new/better

Here are the things im looking for:
>mx reds
>i want the keys really high on the keyboard with no "walls" around it so i can easily clean it
>no lighting
>seperate media keys for volume

Judging by the spec sheet, they should (note that I said "should", ultimately we'll find out once they're available to the consumer market) feel like reds or quite similar, which are perfectly fine for typing in my opinion.

Though they also seem to have a clone of blue switches, which will probably feel similar to blues and are generally regarding as "typist switches". Though it's beyond me why anyone would consider one type of switch better for typing than an other type of switch.

i like the idea of the wooting one but i dont know if i would really use that analog feature. i either press a key or i dont, i never think about how far down i press it. would take alot of getting used to i think. it does look like a nice no nonsense keyboard though, looks like the zowie mouse of keyboards.

Topre, or some vintage switch, though those aren't as interesting as Topre since Topre is non-contact.

Putting white legends on a CMY set looks weird to me. There's just not enough contrast.
The fact that they're also engraved and infilled rather than dye subbed (which coincidentally would allow for awesome black legends) made me lose interest the moment I saw them.
It's such a shame since the colors appear to be even more vivid than the typical GMK mod kits while still being nice PBT.

CMY is great with a clean white. What color is the case?
If you don't want to go full rainbow you can always skip the purple/green keys, alternatively get rid of the pink and use purple as ctrl keys.

What's the point in buying topre when keycaps/switches for these things are so expensive an hard to find? Let alone the fact that a good topre keyboard is expensive as heck. Is topre really that good that it deserves to be this expensive, or is it just companies milking a gimmick as much as possible?

You're not going to find individual Topre switches that are functional in the first place since that's not how the mechanism works.
Keycaps are a non-issue for most people since they're PBT, and you can always gut a novatouch if you want stems to rice your Topre with cherry mx keycaps. Or just get a novatouch in the first place.

Topre feels very nice to use and the switch design lends itself to being quite durable. I don't know on what the price tag for Topre is footed, i. e. production costs and all that stuff, but whether it's worth the relatively high price tag is pretty much up to you. If you want it enough to justify the price tag, then it probably is.

From what I've gathered I want MX Brown and PBT.
Would also like some color but WASD offers only ABS for their custom
board, do I really have to spend an extra $60 for a colored key set?

Wat do, wat buy.

Yeah, I'm quite damn hyped for it too after finding out how the switch works.

Unless it appears to have some kind of major design flaw on release, I am so getting one.

What's the difference between PBT and ABS?

>> No.54725587

Read the sticky

>> No.54725835

PBT is generally more expensive, brittle and harder to mold (double shot legends become difficult) but is also harder and does not lose much texture over time. ABS slowly becomes more shiny over time as your fingers (combined with their oils and dirt) polish them.
The FAQ is partially wrong as PBT can be shiny and ABS can be finely textured out of the box, but the ABS will gradually lose any texture at a faster rate.
The quality of the plastic can also vary as something like GMK's ABS tends to last much longer than most ABS sets.
