I'll never get this meme. I mean sure, typing on these feels good, but it doesn't feel ~$100 good.

The durability is also out of the equation, since with the price you pay for a Mechanical keyboard, you can buy like 30 generic keyboards which will probably outlast you.

I just don't get it, why would someone waste this much money on a keyboard?

Unless they're extremely rich and need new ways of burning money. It's either that or they're slaves to the consumerism.

Why do you want ALPS? I picked up this with White Alps a few weeks ago for free, and it honestly just feels like worse Cherry MX Blues. Worse due to the fact that some keys, most notably Caps Lock and Tab, have difficulty with key-travel if you not hit directly on center. There's also the fact that the keyboard as a whole is a bit inconsistent feeling at times.

is there some place you could go irl to get a feel for the different kinds of switches or whatever options mech keyboards have? and even then, would a brief typing test reveal how they would feel to you after a few days/weeks of daily use? or is this an exclusively richfag hobby for people that can afford to buy-to-try everything under the sun and waste hours and hours of effort and hundreds of dollarydoos on the endless permutations available till finding the perfect fit?

A little overpriced on the west tho, you can get a Varmilo for much cheaper that is made by the same OEM, and comes with the same keycaps.

Dopre review

Ayyyyy you know who it is. ChucklingKumquat back at it again with the dress shoes. I'm actually wearing a suit and tie but this review is going to be far from formal because I'm fucked up. That's right boys. You may be thinking that this review will be good but you're wrong. This review is going to be as shitty as my sex life. So let's get into it. I know that I have coined the term Zealios are the way to your feelios but today this review is about an entirely new animal. An animal that many of you have not experienced before due to the price tag. But I am here to explain the goodness of Dopre. Dopre switches are just that, fuckin dope. From personal experience, Dopre is just the embodiment of dank memes. You know those memes that really speak to you on a different level. That's Dopre. The small tactile bump is just fucking incredible. Little finger titties. That's what they are. Kinda squishy but at the same time firm. Aka the best kind. Nobody likes saggy and boring. It's all about the kinda perky and firm goodness that we all know and love. That my friends is dopre. That is why you pay so much fucking money for a rubber dome but god damn it's the best rubber dome you will ever feel. Every keystroke is like caressing a cuttlefish. Sweet, tender and incredible. Touching the soul of the keybord. Don't believe me? There's a documentary out there on cuttlefish caressing eachother. I saw it in 7th grade. Never forget. You know Dopre may not be as good as the dankness of Zealios but it's pretty damn close. And you know I don't own just an HHKB Type-S I own a JustSystems Realforce which has Hipro caps. The Hipro makes all of the fucking difference. It's about as high as a kite and about as dank as a cave because caves are dark and musty just as the definition says. But that darkness is somehow a light. A light brighter than the illumination of the In N Out sign when you're drunk.

>> No.54089061

where do you see browns?

>> No.54089078

The definition says dark but let's be honest here it's dark with an N. It's DANK. Topre is fucking dank. That's why I call it Dopre. It's dope for your fingers and you get hooked. An addiction that you can't shake off unless you're Taylor swift because all you do is shake it off. Dopre is everything you need. Dopre is the woman that you always knew but you never really knew that you needed. The girl that just kind of steals your heart. Slowly but methodically chipping away at your feels. Until you realize you love her back. Dopre. Dopre is everything you could want in a switch. Tactile finger titties that will steal your heart. Sorry ladies, I'm taken.

Tactile bump isn't very strong for a so-called "tactile" switch.
Tactile bump isn't very long either, the switch is linear for the first 1mm, has a ~1mm tactile bump, then is linear for the rest of the travel.
In recent years Cherry's sliders have been inconsistent. Sometimes you get decently smooth ones, other times they're scratchy.

My only problem with Massdrop is that they throw the products into the cheapest cardboard boxes imaginable, and with no filler like airbags or peanuts.

I received a keyboard from them that was basically falling out of the Massdrop box, which was beat to shit. When I hooked it up, it had a massive chatter problem that was unfixable. It took weeks for them to respond with "lol sorry" and refund me.

Massdrop never again. I won't even trust them with keycaps.

Think that's sold out though anon, I mean since it physically exists it might be a bit easier to obtain than if you were going to fabricate everything, but you'll have to do some searching around. Personally still looking for this set.

Why is there no place to get blank keycaps for my Realforce?? Just too small a market I suppose. Also I bought the variable version and was accidentally shipped the 55g version, is that a win? The idea that the variable version is worse was really triggering me until I checked my model number/serial.

Also, Alt and Meta can be interpreted as 2 different modifiers if you have emacs set up right. It would be cool if they made it so one of the alt keys read alt and the other meta.

Only major dealbreaker might be the nonstandard stem placement on the caps lock key. It matches neither the typical center-stem nor off-center-stem, so the only way to get alternative keycaps for it is to use a 1.5u key and have a gap to the right of it, or to cut apart a keycap and move the stem around.

I just got a Made in Taiwan ROC Focus FK-8000, and everything works great. When I was a kid I had a Focus FK-5001 that was utterly reliable but when I got my first PS/2 board I had no use for it and gave it away. :-(

Anyway this is a nice board, I'm using a PS/2 to AT adapter hanging off a Blue Cube.

Normally I use an Apple IIGS keyboard with an ADB to USB adapter but I wanted more keys for a change.

The f key seemed fucked but I just cleaned the whole board really good and pushed really hard on it for a while.

Anyway quality board and it has the exact same feel, if not every feature, from a classic board I had in my younger days.

If you had to choose between:

Corsair Strafe
Corsair Strafe RGB
or Logitech G710+

which keyboard would you choose?
I know that these are seen as "gaymer" boards and what not, but unfortunately these are some of the very limited that are available to where I live

>> No.54099147

If they all use the same switch like blue or brown and the feeling while typing is same so what is the biggest difference between ducky, corsair, das keyboard and so on?

>> No.54099173

Strafe RGB

>> No.54099190

Case quality, cap layout and quality, and plate/PCB mounted switches (and quality of those, too).

>> No.54099219

So what to avoid?

>> No.54099319

Of those you named, I'd only avoid Corsair. Their cap quality isn't great and nonstandard layout makes it difficult to find replacements. Razer and many CM boards suffer from this, too.

Chinese boards have been getting a lot better. Boards like the Magicforce and Zhuque offer real or clone Cherry at 1/2 the price a similar board used to cost. Post what layout and such you want, I'm sure others can give recs.

I wasn't a huge fan of the low-profile keycaps, but it's certainly a solid board. Only issue is the off-center capslock that the other anon mentioned.

Pic related, it's a nice board but has outlived it's usefulness ever since I switched to ansi.

>> No.54099433

Strafe RGB.

If I'd be getting a piece of shit I'd at least want it to have fancy lights.

>> No.54099441

No, the exact opposite is true. If you don't buy backlighting you have to turn on lights to see the keyboard and once you live alone and have to pay for electricity you will realize that backlit keyboards are the way to go.
And who cares if you are childish? I live alone and don't give a fuck what someone thinks about me or my apartment

>> No.54099460

>If you don't buy backlighting you have to turn on lights to see the keyboard
I don't care about this backlit vs. no backlighting idiocy, but you should know to touch-type.

/mkg/ I'm considering a Cherry G84-5200LCMEU-2 (ten-key US english) and as I understand it the specs show the keys (ML) to be cherry brown like in force and tactile feel, but shorter travel time? It seems like they have a sharper bump but a .5mm shorter travel to activation?

Am I missing something that would stop them being perfect for someone like me who loves low profile keyboards but wants the feel of cherry browns?

>> No.54099779

Just realised I was reading the graph wrong, and it looks like the ML switches don't have a bump, but more of a decrease in pressure then a slight rise again at activation? Is that right?

>> No.54100254

Aren't their left overs from round 6 though? I can't figure out the wiki but from what I can tell you can still get them on deskathourity

>> No.54100368

Oh come on man.
Keys are slightly smaller than usual 1u keycaps
There are 2 versions of the switch, a taller, robuster one and a smaller one.
Only 20 million keystrokes
tactile bump is way before the actuation point, you basically need to bottom out (which should only be a problem if you actually touchtype)
switches feel "dry" and scratchy
tactility is worse than mx brown
Apple scissor switch rubberdome feels nicer, but have less travel and tire you sooner.
That's basically it.

As someone who really loves slim keyboards ( The one Apple and a lot of modern laptops use ) How much will a mechanical keyboard with red switches differ?

I haven't really looked THAT much into mechanical keyboards but i'd reckon I need a new one in like... a year or so. I've got this old Logitech for 6 years or so. Still works allright but i'd like something new.

I'm not looking for a mechanical keyboard with huge shining leds, just fast and fluid buttons.

I mostly just browse and type on the thing.

Hugely. You really need to try one, or buy a cheap one to try like that other anon suggested.

>> No.54101098

Reds sound exactly what you want then, quick and smooth without a ton of noise. I'd go for the Monoprice board that's 34 bux w/ Gateron reds if you like full size. If not, Magicforce like >>54100797 said.

I was surprised by the quality of this board. It's a really good price for what you get.
