Does anyone know where I can buy replacement keycaps for a Razer BlackWidow?

I bought my BlackWidow in the US, but I live in the UK and I prefer the UK layout. Is there anywhere that I can buy keycaps so I can switch them out on my keyboard to match the UK locale? The keycaps ideally need to be the same as the stock razer ones; black, and allows backlighting

Does anyone here have experiences with DSA? I'm thinking of getting a dye-sub set from signature plastics in blue and white.

Find out how the matrix is set up and connect the rows and columns to the teensy (one row or column per pin). The rest is a matter of programming the firmware. Matt3o has a good tutorial on this.

That's what I need help with
How do I figure out how it is set up

>> No.54052101

Follow those traces on the PCB from the pins at the top to their end and see how they're connected. They should be arranged in columns (vertical) and rows (horizontal), either the columns or the rows (most likely the rows) will be connected with diodes. Follow all those routes and note which pin at the top of the PCB connects what row or column.

If your PCB is two sided (what I'm guessing by the looks of it) you'll have to check on both sides to see how things are connected.

It's not exactly an easy job, but that's part of the fun.

>> No.54052133

I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove all the switches, the diods are actually soldered inside the switches.

>> No.54052296

>I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove all the switches, the diods are actually soldered inside the switches
You don't. Just look at the traces in the PCB and use a multimeter to test the direction in which the current flows with the diodes.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon, but cannot decided red or brown. I play vidya and have it in my head that brown would be good for rapid pressing. I've also read many times people who use red swearing up and down it's straight up the best.

I'm using some default dell pos I found somewhere or something, and I've had enough of it's shit. You probably know the exact one. I'm wondering if brown's will be quieter than this thing.

I also have a feeling reds will be just fucking fine for gaming and as quiet as I want them.

The difference is merely a bump, correct? I'm hoping some people will give me their opinions.

There's no contact area. They're capacitive.

Do you think it uses fairy dust to send a signal? Of course it has contact area, it's just directly onto the capacitive board instead of a membrane.

So I just found one of these at a local used electronics store for $5 so of course I bought it. The problem is that the keyboard was fucking filthy and disgusting all over so I took off all the keys and cleaned those. I also decided to take apart the rest of the keyboard and basically removed everything. There was a silver metal sheet at the base of it attached to a terminal on the circuit board, and it's covered in what I assume is rust? It doesn't really look like rust, though. It's going to be a real pain to clean. Anyways, I was wondering what exactly it does as part of the keyboard. The membranes sit on top of it. I'll upload a pic in a few minutes.

Except the flipper does strike the plate to close the switch. Do you think plastic feels the same to tap on as metal? How about a thin sheet of foil vs iron bars?

You saying "lalala no it's not" doesn't negate the physics of a different shape and material.

If you'd like to actually learn about why this is, make a thread on GH or DT. Plenty of others will confirm exactly what I'm saying.

IBM 8808 wireless keyboard circa 2001. Runs on 4 AAAs with a maximum range of 10 feet. Didn't get the mouse unfortunately, but even as minimally laggy as the keyboard is I don't think a wireless optomechanical mouse would be very good for modern use.

Mechanically, it's based on the 8806 keyboard, included stock with most IBM desktops of the period. Gonna use it with my TP 600X and Presario 5000, both of which run Win98 and absolutely hate my Corsair K65.

It's not mechanical, but it's in great shape and works beautifully. Very nice to type on as well, but I'm faster and more accurate on my Cherry ML4100. The key texture has surprisingly not worn out despite what is obviously many years of use, judging from the darkened key legends around the WASD area.

What kind of lube is used? Silicone? Are the shafts made of polyamide?
I ask because idiots might try to use WD 40 or another petroleum-based lubricant, which might destroy the ABS plastic of the switch housings.

Stems are POM and housings are usually nylon, although im not sure about transluscent ones. I would guess policarbonate.

Just finished lubing/assembling this one. Still waiting for some solder equipment, but this far I'm happy with how it turned out.
It has 65g lubed, stickered vintage clears (little smoother than todays) and is inside a GON Skinny 60%. I really like that case this far. Very light weight, but still really solid.

I'll have to switch to ANSI-Layout though, since I'm not used to ISO anymore. I hope the JTK Black on Orange mods will fit it nicely, but I feel like the different shades of black will ruin everything. Too bad I missed Skidata+...

"mechanical keyboard PCB" and "mechanical keyboard case" give you some, can dig through the seller inventories and feedback to see what you like.
Including the number of keys or layout (82, 60%, TKL) will give you different results, too.

You can find the plate, PCB, case, switches, caps and cables on there, but look around and figure out what kind of controller you want to use. That might be better found elsewhere.

Keep in mind that I linked this as a proof of concept. I'm sure that something similar can be built for many other wireless keyboards. The potential is there. The neighbor thing was just an example. How shit is Logitech G810 ? It costs 160 euros, but BUY NOW™ and receive Logitech G602 for FREE™* which normally costs 80 euros here
Normally I wouldn't even bat an eye on either of those things, but I'm in need of a wireless mouse(although I was looking at cheapo <20 euro mice) and I was planning on mechanical keyboard at some point in my life, so on paper this looks like a tremendous deal, but how good or shit is it really ?

Massdrop is shit in some of their drops. I just bought an Ajazz ak33 for $34 on eBay. Same shit.

>> No.54085370

Uniformly placed function keys is a laptop meme that has no place on a desktop keyboard. When you stretch to the top row, you will be so far off from the homerow or other touch registration keys that your precision will be off. Function keys in groups of 4 completely solves this problem, which is why the IBM standard established this in the first place. You can't tell me there isn't space for grouped function keys on that keyboard either. Look at the escape key abomination. Look at that oversized delete key. This is an aesthetic (imo a poor one at that) choice that impacts performance. Buy it if you want something that you think looks good, not if you want something useful. If you really want the minimalist setup and hate function key groups, just get a 60% keyboard with a modifier function key for the number row and media keys placed elsewhere.

>> No.54085390

I've now realized that I want to have a Topre Pok3r with a separate Realforce numpad as a means of achieving comfy ergonomics while still being able to spam number input as desired.

>inb4 just get an HHKB
I don't like that there's no key in the bottom left of the keyboard, and I don't like that the arrow layer isn't at ijkl, though the latter could be remapped.
>inb4 just get an MX Clear Pok3r
It's not the same and you all know it.

the ajazz ak33 is just as good as any TKL.

They don't live without them, the keys are on a function layer. You don't live without capital letters.

>> No.54085777

So you're saying it's more ergonomic to have to press down two keys for the arrows? Having to press multiple keys to move the cursor seems like it would lose more typing speed and ergonomics than including them. I highly doubt anyone's shoulders are so big that not having arrow keys makes a difference. Eventually we'll get to the point where even 60% isn't enough for you memers. We'll have 40%, with shift, ctrl, alt on a function layer.

>So you're saying it's more ergonomic to have to press down two keys for the arrows?
No, it's about efficiency.

>Having to press multiple keys to move the cursor seems like it would lose more typing speed and ergonomics than including them.
>seems like
Highly objective analysis there, champ.

>I highly doubt anyone's shoulders are so big that not having arrow keys makes a difference.
It has nothing to do with width of shoulders, it's about the time it takes to reach over to the other keys. Of course it doesn't take a lot of time, but neither does holding down a modifier. The idea being that, if you're used to it, it can be faster.

>> No.54085877

I have only one question, why? I can understand if you built it yourself for the experience or whatever, but from a typing standpoint, if you're going to go this far for "efficency" or "ergonomics", why not just get an ergodox?

>> No.54085899

I don't have one myself, nor would I want a Planck, I just wanted to show that 40%'s do exist. I'd imagine at that point it's almost becoming a challenge about how dense they can make a keyboard.

>> No.54085910

>I'd imagine at that point it's almost becoming a challenge about how dense they can make a keyboard.
I can see the appeal in that.

>> No.54086349

put your pinky on caps lock. Now look where your ring, middle, and pointer finger sit. wasd. bam. caps lock is FN and wasd just became your arrows. No need to leave the home row. same for jkl; as arrow keys. Don't ever have to move your wrists to get to what you need. Also why I love having the \ key as backspace. so much more convenient and comfy.

also this >>54085899 dense means you don't have to move your hands at all to type. I like my HHKB but I don't think even I could do 40%. 60% works just perfect for me.
