Thanks, my only gripe with it are the stock keycaps, which are quite ok, but I'd rather have something a bit more low-profile. Thinking of getting some DSA dyesubs from signature plastics in white and blue.

I actually replaced the black switch on the spacebar with a red since it was a bit too heavy for my taste. I just about never use the right shift, so I'll probably use it as an FN key, in which case I'd rather have it be light. I use the capslock (going to be the control key) and the left shift a lot for playing insurgency, so I thought I'd rather have something that I won't risk pressing accidentally, while still not putting too much strain on my fingers since left shift gets pressed down a lot.
I use tab to check the scoreboard, so I thought I'd rather have something that I can just press momentarily and then release again without having to worry about accidentally hitting it.

I don't know if my worries of accidentally hitting keys is justified, but these clears are so fucking light that it seems possible.

File: 2.35 MB, 4592x3448, P1060448.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

Mine fortunately didn't have LEDs, but if you want to change the LED color you can either use those LED color changing thingies (small bits of plastic you clip over the LED) or you have to replace the LEDs, in which case you'll have to unsolder and resolder a whole bunch of LEDs.

Unsoldering LEDs is a horrible pain. I have a desoldering pump and even with that thing desoldering an LED on my Shine 4 was an ordeal. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really want a different color LED.

I used to work as a clerk in a courthouse. I did the paperwork for my county traffic court. Each day, during the afternoon, I would enter in the judgements for the hundreds of tickets that were resolved in court that day into the state database manually. Each week, I input thousands of license plates and addresses using a Model M. (It wasn't mine, it came with my cubicle).

It wasn't efficient to use the number pad, because I would be inputting combinations of letters and numbers constantly. There were no licenses that were solely numbers. There were no addresses that were solely letters. Eventually, I became quite good at using the number row to enter numbers. I won the office typing contest twice. 137 wpm.

I don't like that the fat enter key gets rid of one of the nice things about the normal HHKB, which is having the backspace in a more convenient place.
Having an extra key between enter and the home row would be weird.
I don't like that right shift isn't adjacent to [?/], though a remapping would fix that.
I also have no need for Japanese, and would probably remap the entire bottom, though that's also trivial.
I don't know how I'd fair with the tiny spacebar, since I seem to hit it below the V and M keys.

I DO like that there is a bottom left key that I can remap.

Uhh no, but I am looking for the non-backlit version of the Zhuque.
The backlit versions have stupid placement of the LEDs that prevent normal switches from fitting without a cutout.

>> No.54045886

How do you prevent your keycaps from getting all shiny?

>> No.54045891

I really don't understand what the point of backlighting is. Can one person give me one (1) rational justification for why you need your keyboard to glow?

>> No.54045893

Buy PBT/not-shit ABS.

I did not exert any bias whatsoever.

In fact, I was saying that gaming keyboard actually didn't look bad.

Why are you so touchy about it?

Visible when lights are off.

Looks neat.

Bam, there is two.

>> No.54045918

They legitimately think it looks good. LEDs are ugly, but my pet peeve are those 3D sculpted keycaps. Those are so fucking terrible, especially the skull ones, it really makes you think, like how can anyone past the age of 15 possibly think it's an acceptable thing to do

Having back lighting on my keyboard helps me type in the dark.

>visible when the lights are off

There is genuinely no reason to be able to touch type in the year 2016. Typing has been part of the curriculum in schools longer than anyone on this site has been alive, you would have to have either not paid attention in school or have already forgotten how to touch type, either way it's disgraceful

>> No.54045952

Yeah, I think most "artisan" caps look like fisher-price junk.

Some subtle backlighting looks decent tho. Ducky does it pretty well, but I'd never pay more for it.

Most people can touchtype without issue.

Number rows and symbols are something many have trouble with.

Speaking of autistic gamer products, anybody know of some darker green PBT keycaps for this puppy? I like the board but the keycaps are slippery bullshit.
As far as I know, the bottom row is nonstandard, but I'd settle for just replacing the space bar.

I would very much disagree about the blue ALPS thing. My blue alps keyboard was one of my first and over 20 mechanical keyboards later they're still my favorites by good margin.

>> No.54047147

They're pretty much lighter, lubed white alps. Decent switches, but certainly not worth the hype.

Orange ALPS offer 95% of the experience at 20% the price.

>> No.54047158

May I ask what your favorite switches are then? If blue ALPS aren't up there?

>> No.54047218

I hear your argument then if its about the price. The oranges share the same switch plate so it makes sense. The whites need lube and the long grey switch plate to feel unidentifiable I would imagine.
