tl;dr - why did changing dns servers fix my connection issues after getting a new modem with old router setup?

I got a new modem and had issues with it connecting to my router, it would connect to my PC just fine though.
It would show I had internet connection on my desktop but wouldn't open webpages, until I eventually tried changing my dns server to like some video told me to.
Everything works great but now I have to change the dns server on my iPhone to get it to connect to wifi.

Why did I have to manually swap dns servers and is there any way to avoid having to manually adjust the dns on every new device each time I connect to my network now?

Sup /sqt /,

I have a friend who's a bit short on money atm and we're going to reuse one of these power supplies. He'll just be powering a CPU (i5-6500), ram (ddr4) and a hard disk. 300W is more than enough. He'll get a new PSU next month so this is temporary. It'll be connected to a UPS so practically no risk of electrical fuckery from the outlet affecting the PSU.

First, what is the best way to clone and restore an OS install? What is the industry standard, professional way to do this?

Second, how do I infect a computer with virus and trojans, and then clean it up? I want to learn how to clean infected PCs. What software and tools are used to do this?

The reason I want to clone and restore the install is so I can practice cleaning PCs of different types of infections over and over. I have a spare PC, so I figured I could use it to learn.

I have a pair of cheap (< US$5 converted from my currency) stereo sound boxes for PC, 1W, that drains energy from 1 USB port.
They simply doesn't emit any kind of sound. The LED lits up, but there is no sound.

It's not worth the price to pay somebody else to fix, but should I fix it myself? It's worth? Should it be difficult?

What I know is that these type of sound boxes have terrible sound quality, so I would prefer giving them (working) to someone instead of using them myself.

I think I fucked up. I just got a couple new 4TB drives to replace the 1.5TB nightmare that was failing SMART tests for me, and decided now was as good a time as any to properly set up RAID with the controller built in to my mobo. The drives I'm using are the 2 4TB WD Reds, and 2 2TB Reds that I had in the machine previously. I got RST to see everything and let me build the RAID between the 2 4TB drives, but I think I overestimated what it was going to do automatically for me. I had already moved all my data from the drives onto one of the 4TBs since I knew it'd let me just mirror that one onto the other 4TB, but I guess I just assumed it'd also let me convert from a RAID 1 array on those 2 into RAID 10 with the 2TB drives? You most likely won't need any powerful computer for cs or any programming classes. I'm doing an ee/cs hybrid degree and most of the programming courses for cs/physics that are really intensive let you ssh into the university's shit. The only reason you'd need a fast computer in STEM is for 3d CAD shit

Microwave it until it fits in an SD port, it works.

Start with 30 seconds, then adds seconds until it fits.

My cpu is hitting some really bad temps on idle. It used to hit around 30c idle but now it's up to 70c. When I first noticed it, it was making some weird sounds too. Cpu is an i3 4360 with stock cooler and a 450w or so psu

Do I get different sound quality based on which volume settings I use?

If I play a youtube video on my computer, which is hooked up to my tv. Is there a noticable difference between having the computer volume and youtube volume low, but the tv's volume high, as opposed to having the computer volume and youtube volume high, but the tv volume low?

Is this damaging to speakers, or is there an optimate volume controller I should use (like only using tv volume, or only controlling volume through computer's volume)?

>> No.53548172

General rule is to have your source volume as high as possible, and your hardware volume as low as you can. As in high volume in windows, low volume on your volume knob.

Okay /g/. I seriously need your help. My headset broke, and my girlfriend lent me one of her spare headsets. Its some RIG Plantronics piece of shit, and it has a built in feature that you can always hear yourself. Its fucking annoying and is there anyway to stop it from electrical taping the ever living shit out of it, as that's my last resort until I get paid on the first again.

I've disabled everything I could possibly think of in the audio manager but it doesn't seem to fucking help.

Do I need an aftermarket color if planning to OC my skylake processor? What would the power draw or whatever be if I do OC? I'm using a 4 pin CPU power connector even though my motherboard has 8 pins. It would be OCing through the mobo, as my CPU is non k but I guess you're able to overclock them thanks to the mobo.

I've never OCed in my life. Does it actually put my other PC components at risk of failure?

Really stupid question but very useful if I were to get an answer.

I put all my music onto my phone from my music folder but there is a discrepancy. My computer has one extra file that my phone doesn't. Dragging and dropping then clicking 'don't copy' and 'do this for all conflicts' doesn't fix it. How do I find the discrepancy?

Yes but No, get a 4GB cheap laptop with a Z Atom CPU.

You are talking about something like the Lenovo 100S or the ASUS X205TA right?

Is this a good GPU buy?
It's a GTX 970, OC'd to 1152 MHz (1304MHz boost).
Price is 326€ ($368 USD).
It'll be playing Kerbal Space Program in Arch.

I would say 2 GB is on the lower end (I recommend 4 GB) but it's doable if you have a light operating system. Linux with xfce/mate as desktop environment or Windows XP (you can get RAM usage down to less than 100 MB for the operating system which leaves you with 1.9GB for the browser which is enough).

/wsr/ gurus

I am looking at getting a dell inspiron 15 7000 2 in 1 model (other model suggestions welcome)

The new deals on dells site are online and I've hit a snag

Do I buy the i3 model that comes with 4GB & 500HDD for $799aud (in this case I would buy an 8GB stick and 256GB SSD and fit them myself)...

Or take the plunge and spend a few hundred more and get the i5 or i7 which comes with all the above already fitted

I don't game, the most intensive thing I do is running 20-30 tabs on a browser which includes videos streaming

What do?

Question for some people who know how to program well.

Making a program for school, user inputs values for diameter, length, width, base, height. Those values are put through some calculations for area. Area is calculated and spat back out to the user in various different units. After making it we were told to seperate it into a shit load of submodules (methods in java).

However, when I seperate my input and output modules it kind of fucks up the whole program (won't compile).

And it's because the variables are initialized within the input method and then I try to use those variables in the output method. If I try to define the variables within the method (obviously doesn't work) because I've already defined and initialized the variables within the input method(s).

So my question is essentially how can I enable my output method to use the variables initialized by the user in the input methods.

The idea is meant to be that my main is just:
Main {
outputCRT(); //CRT = Circle Rectangle Triangle

I thought you passed variables between methods like:

outputCRT(int diameter, double length...etc)
all my shit in the output

But (I'm pretty sure) this means that when I call it in my main I'd have to give it values:

Main {
outputCRT(8, 32.43...etc);

But that defeats the whole purpose of users inputting their own values in using the scanner. Please help if you understand what I'm trying to get across, can post more info if needed.
