Where to Buy:

Old thread: >>53307822

[cherry red, brown, blue] ganss gs 87 ~ $65 | Rosewill RK-9000V2 ~$70

Don't buy kailh switches, don't buy cheapo backlit kailh gamer boards, don't buy non-standard condensed meme layouts as your first board, you will hate them.
Also read the pastebins and pls stop asking questions we've answered a million times already, especially "what switch should I get??? :("

Could you guys at least say the user who owns the keyboard or provide a link to the thread? Having our content stolen and reposted is getting old.

>> No.53334705

The cheap Adesso board I bought has two keys that have a very muted click when pressed. The actuation bump is still present, but the click is very muted. I believe this is because clip in the switch is bent too far back. Unfortunately I can't get to it without desoldering the switch. We'll see if it's covered by warranty or not. Worst case, I can fix it myself or just return the keyboard and get something better. The Quickfire Rapid would have been a better buy. Most of the Kailh switches feel fine, but the cheap keycaps don't help them feel any better. We'll see how they feel when the PBT caps arrive.
this whole thing is just one big meme
I found out it does have Windows key lock - it wasn't advertised anywhere.

My old keyboard had Cherry MX Blue switches, if I buy a new one (Cherry MX Blue also), can I transfer the old keycaps to the new keyboard or does every brand have custom keycaps?

>> No.53341944

What keycaps profile i must use with my qpad mk-50?

>> No.53342023

All cherry mx keycaps are compatible with all cherry mx boards with two exceptions: some boards have different stabalizers for the big keys (which you should be able to swap over or maybe I'm thinking of other key switches) and some boards have a different button layout. Obviously you can swap key caps from an ISO board to an ANSI board or vice versa and despite what other people say, there is no standard bottom row layout so a lot of boards may have different spacing or buttons.

>> No.53342057

Whatever keycap profile you like the best.

Though you'll have some trouble finding compatible sets with that non-standard bottom row.

>> No.53342165

Np. I'm pretty sure that all cherry mx key sets use the same or compatible stabilizers so you should be good as long as you get something with the same layout. I know that alps mount keycaps are all over the place with stabilizers though. My monterey board uses a cherry plate with chicony switches and alps mount keys with an ansi layout except for the iso enter and a 1.5-1-1.5-7-1.5-1-1.5 bottom row. I don't even know what stabilizers it uses and I haven't seen any other boards with those stabs. It's pretty safe to say I'll never find another full set of keycaps for it other than what I have.

What's wrong with your current board? Are you interested in selling it for parts?

Holy fuck you are even more stupid than I thought.
Of course you can PCB mount them, the only difference between PCB and plate mounted is the fucking plate (and two little plastic legs, which don't interfere with the QMX at all), which makes it impossible to install the QMX-clip.
Next time you should use your time to actually read what you are buying and less on searching for an anime reaction picture.
So yeah "fuckface", I guess you'll have to sell your QMX-clips on the /mechmarket, where a stupid motherfucker like you belongs.

>> No.53366437

Probably because that isn't the market that they aimed for and also because it is impossible to do with plate mounted switches that way.
Most industrial keyboards are still PCB mounted, maybe because it is cheaper, or because it is easier to maintain (if you spill something on a key and it becomes sticky or something). I guess the idea was to mainly install them on these, so Cherry keyboards can finally be used in offices again, where the noise of current switches is an actual problem.

I'm still hoping that their own line of keyboards gets released at some point, they were said to enter the market a whole year ago (uniqey), but never did.

Gateron, not Vortex.

Fun story: imsto spent around $5000 on an ISO enter mold for them, but nothing for the short left shift and two extra 1 unit caps. But Gateron manufacture complete ANSI sets in one go, so these extra required keys can't just be made separately.
So how can a full ISO set exist? By harvesting the missing caps from another set of course. The two bottom rows are the same profile so you get 7 short shift keys by discarding the rest of every 8th set.

I backed the Varmilo va87 on Massdrop right now with Gateron Browns, looking forward to receiving it in a month when I've completely forgotten about it.

What do you think about Gateron Browns vs Cherry's?

>TFW I'm an idiot who thought gateron clears were like cherry clears when ordering a whitefox

From what I hear they're a little lighter than cherry browns but are very smooth

ML switches: most people hate them, some people like them

the layout seems neat and compact

no aftermarket keycaps for ML switches

Second batch, getting it in may. I'll probably order some browns and swap the tops out whenever I feel like desoldering the LEDs.

i actually love the feel and the sound is unique,
it feels like a "meatier" Thinkpad keyboard.

The small right shift got me a couple times, but it's rather nice to type on and all the most useful keys are still in logical positions.

Why isn't there any keyboards with small LCD's now? It's the one thing stopping me from upgrading to a new keyboard.

some ergodox designs and a few customs include one, but you need drivers etc. to do interesting stuff, and why look at your keyboard when you have an actual display, i.e. the monitor?

I really like the switches on this keypad!

It's good to avoid clutter, especially when playing a game or encoding something, just a quick glance down. It was a gimmick for me at first also but it's pretty integral in the way I have things set up now, the rice is on that instead of on the desktop.

Someone left a Cherry MX3000 in my club's room attached to one of the college's computers. No one knows where it came from (wasn't here last week). If it's still here next week I'm going to take it.

How do you justify the price of topre.

How do you justify the quality of topre over Logitech's own new switch technology.
