Hey /g/ I recently bought a new razer blackwidow chroma TKL

can the switches on these things be replaced for cherry mx switches (i.e. lubricated ergo clears) or would they be incompatible?

please respond q_q

>> No.53279704

Sorry, i found it already.
So what's better, code greens or Novatouch? As far as i know they both has shit keycaps

>> No.53279705

Yes, you can replace the switches. You'll just have to desolder all the LEDs too.

>> No.53279725

Topre switches and cherry greens are very different. Neither of those keyboards are inherently better than the other, it depends on whether you want greens with backlighting or whether you want a Topre with cherry mx compatible stems.

>> No.53279730

fucking indian guy on tech support said they wouldnt be compatible lol

im might buy some purple Zealio switches then.

>> No.53279765

They use cherry mx clones, should be perfectly compatible.

>> No.53279795

Ok, the thing is - i can't try it before buying. I need some opinions on greens vs topre theme.
right now I have browns and i don't like them, because they not tactile enough for me

>> No.53279859

why is it a horrible pain?

also, can you reccommend a good set of translucent keycaps to replace the stock ones with?

>> No.53279934
File: 2.37 MB, 4592x3448, P1060228.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

I've only ever tried greens on a switch tester, so keep that in mind.

Greens are heavy and very tactile. They feel really snappy and statisfying. I'd probably have gotten a keyboard with greens instead of one with clears if greens weren't also loud as shit.

Topre is a whole lot lighter than greens, and also tactile. It's a whole lot more quiet than mx-style switches and feels like a high quality rubber dome. There's no linear travel and then a change in force and then more linear travel like with tactile mx switches. The force required to press the key changes constantly, so in that regard it could be considered the most tactile of switches (though I still haven't found out how tactility is measured). Topre feels really nice and comfy, but you can't really make a direct and valid comparison between topre and greens, they're far too different.

Cooler master actually has a switch tester which features both a novatouch switch and the regular cherry lineup (except for clears). I'd recommend getting their switch tester so you can compare the two side by side.

Give it a go and you'll find out why. I have a desoldering pump and even with that it was a pain to get the solder away from the solder joint so I could take the LED out.

And the bottom row on that keyboard is non-standard, your selection of keycaps is highly limited. The only set of decent translucent keycaps out there does not accommodate for non-standard bottom rows. So no, I can't really recommend you anything else than getting a better keyboard in that regard.

Hi, guys, noob to mechanicals. I just took off a key on my keyboard, and while it's really not mechanical, I'd love to buy one in time. What keyswitch is this? Also, what keyboard can I buy to replace it? I'd love a 10-keyless, but there is no good store in the Czech republic. All of them have 200$ or more, some have cheaper, but usually not. I've found a Kailh keyboard for about 90$ and a Zalman with Kailh reds for about 50$

So I'm kind of open to any suggestions. Will a Kailh be worth it?

Hey lads, right now I'm using a Unicomp Ultra Classic and love the buckling springs. There's a problem though. It takes up too much space on my desk, and doesn't have enough key rollover for vidya. I want to get something with a similar feel in tenkeyless. I've heard clears or greens might do it, so when it comes down to it, would I be better off buying something like the CM Quickfire Stealth with greens, or buying a Quickfire Rapid and replacing the switches. I would get the CODE keyboard but it's pricey and WASD keycaps are shite.

I'd suggest avoiding the weirder 75% layouts and getting a normal tenkeyless. The size difference isn't that big and good 75% board is hard to find.
Read up on Cherry switches and just get something you like. Avoid knockoff stuff and shady sites.

If this board is meant to be portable skip a few more keys and get something like a Varmilo VA68M or Leopold FC660. They're basically 60% boards with arrow keys and 2-4 extra buttons.

>> No.53291897

Swapping Alps springs is a pain in the ass though. But luckyly you can open even plate mounted Alps, so at least you don't have to desolder the QC board first.
Matias QC aren't that quiet though. The keywobble makes them louder than they could be. They are still quieter than most stock Cherries, but some lubed, stickered ergo-clears in a nice case (I like the stuff from Tex) are at least as quiet, if not quieter.

I'm looking to get a Matias board currently but you're making a mite worried about fatigue. I've been under the impression that something like replacing springs would be quite the undertakement, but maybe I mixed it up with something else?

It's rather difficult, especially since there are no aftermarket alps compatible springs.
Opening Alps is rather easy, but reassembling is quite difficult and takes some time. However it is only time consuming, it's difficult to actually damage the switch.

What kind of switch are you used to?

I've got MX Browns since three years back. Been meaning to get something a little bit stiffer, and Matias seems to fit the bill.

It's a shame I've no real way of trying them out beforehand.

top kek I tried typing on my intern's mx browns again and they still feel like shit

>> No.53292035

I think you'll be fine. While Matias is a little stiffer and more tactile they feel way nicer than browns.
I don't want to badmouth your browns, but when I said "Matias QC would be superior in every way" I meant "near perfect" and browns are pretty far from perfect.
I seriously think that Matias QC are an improvement to browns in every way possible, except maybe keycaps.

Looking for a TKL with ANSI layout, but I need it to have a usb pass-through for hooking up a numpad for the occasional heavy-on-entering-numbers activities. Any decent contenders? The pass-through makes it really hard to look for.

It's fine, there's a reason I'm looking to get a new keyboard after all. Well, other than because the left Control and Shift of my current board sometimes not actuating since a few weeks back. Either way, I don't harbour strong emotions for my switches (although I disagree with the common opinion of them as being worse reds).

Cheers, Anon. You made me worried and then promptly got rid of my worries.

The only keyboards I know of that feature that are the DAS keyboards (not sure if the TKL one includes usb ports) and the HHKB.

The point for me is that the bottom out and upstroke noise on undampened alps makes it louder than the scissor switch on my laptop. As long as it isn't noticeably louder than my chicklet, I'm cool.

are switch testers that bad? I would like to have one for future references.

>> No.53292497

you can't judge a keyboard by a key.

also same switches can feel different on different keyboards and caps.

within limits, yes, but at the end of a day you should really compare keyboard rather than switches.

(full disclosure: I'm a topre-fan)

>> No.53292518

Everything's a meme.

The cooler master switch tester v2 if you want to get a general idea about cherries and want to test topre too, and don't care about clears.

Otherwise, this one here is quite cool, I'd get one myself if I wouldn't already have half the switches featured.

You should also keep in mind what this guy
(>>53292497) is saying. Though I do think that a switch tester will give you a relatively good idea of what you'll be getting, the best option is getting full keyboard.

>> No.53292533

This anon is right, you know.
A nice case, good keycaps and a not shitty plate make as much of a difference as a different switch.
You still can figure out what kind of switch you can imagine for yourself, just don't think that every board with this switch feels and sounds the same.

Just got some Gateron spacebars. Holy shit, the black ones have so much colour swirls it isn't even funny anymore. Why are people sucking Gaterons dick so much? Shit sucks. At least it fits nicely and the texture is ok.

what makes you think metal would be a nice material for keycaps? It's slippery and when you slam the key it's going to resonate.

my dude, as a guy who works in customer support, we don't know anything more than opening the case voiding your warranty or basic bullshit like that. Do you think I know how to make a cappuccino that we sell from our company? Fuck no, I just research how many calories it has when people are too lazy to google the answer.

Should have come straight to /mkg/

The black ones suck. The backlight doesn't go through some keycaps.
