>> No.47527530

if u need a full sized keyboard/75% i dont see why not

i would recommend getting one from ortholinearkeyboards.com as they allow u to get the most for your money considering u can get milled aluminum cases, pbt keycaps, and ANY keyswitch u want(u can request any keycap in any combination you want and are allowed to reprogram the key configs for infinite hotkeys, which is great for games and work in applications like photoshop, IDEs, etc.)
But thats if you want to go into the more extreme side of keyboards.
The CODE keyboard is awesome as an entry level mechanical keyboard
the Model M or Unicomp keyboards are the second best clicky keyboards you can get(unless you have money for alps greens which are fucking heavenly)
waste of time
its built well and is a fairly good keyboard
wait till u try ergodox or ortholinear
>Packard Bell
Rubber Dome
not mechanical
but next time you wanna find out, try removing the keycap with a wire keycap remover

>> No.47527579

they get worn out faster
not as optimizable as mechanical keyboards

not as satisfying as some mechanical keyboards
not as configurable(some people use different keyswitches for different keys)
terrible for heavy handed people

i can burn through membrane keyboards pretty fucking fast(or at least make them oily and make them a bit worn out for my tastes)

>> No.47528169

this whole board is full of shills with too much money and not enough sense.

fuck you moot.

>> No.47528268

there are plenty of lovely mechanical keyboards that can be found for less than 50(they are all vintage tho)

and i wasnt implying more expensive
a lot of people build their own keyboards and it costs almost nothing but some sweat
a lot of nubs just want the package working at their doorstep(i need to work 24/7 so when i ordered muh uber expensive one i needed it ready to be working the second i got it.)
and much like headphones, people often are willing to sacrifice a lot for certain characteristics
it may seem rather frivolous to spend such money on keyboards, but with a growing work force that spends its time on computers, and etc, computer accessories become like pens, travel accessories, etc that one would spend money on for business to make themselves more efficient.

well your standard ansi 100% keyboard has staggered keys and is a flat board with no symmetry.
More advanced keyboards ditch the traditional design for one that is actually more effective
I believe that ergodox and ortholinear are the two most advanced at the moment until that Kings keyboard comes out. They are ergonomic and made to be as comfortable and efficient as possible, instead of following the traditions of typewriters. Ortholinear and ergodox have been proven to prevent carpal tunnel and also (from my experience) help people not only type faster but also allow them to fully remap keys for infinite hotkeys(found on no 100% ansi keyboards)
cuz i like talking with people about keyboards alright faggot?
i literally have been they guy that has put this thread back up for the past couple weeks now, simply cuz its fun to talk about this shit.
>pic related
that color combination is actually inspired by a town called vice which i believe is in Burgahland, California
>meanwhile ortholinear and ergodox have infinite programming layers that can be triggered by timers, tapping rhythms, and more
Gaterons are noticeably smoother than cherry mx that are being produced at the moment and use much better materials that make them buttery smooth. They are cheaper than cherry mx and feel better
The layout is really what you are buying
Topres feel a little nicer than membrane keys but arent really anything special
try lubed gaterons with custom gold plated springs(still cheaper and better feeling than topres)

The clack can actually be made quieter with o rings, and the click is just a feature of some mechanical key switches. Linear and Tactile switches which are quite common actually are are quieter than membranes when o ringed and lubed(maybe even when not lubed.)

Is there any reason I shouldn't get a <$30 104 set of PBT keycaps off ebay? Is there anything inherently bad about them?

If you want it, go for it.

>Is there anything inherently bad about them?
$30 PBT keycaps from ebay are usually thin PBT with ugly legends. That being said, if you like the look of them, and you're coming from thin stock ABS keycaps, sure it'll probably be an upgrade for you.

>> No.47560348

I thought pbt were just placebo?

>> No.47560389

Depends on what you're looking for. ABS/PBT don't really feel any different, its really based on the molds they're made from; is there texture on the mold, yes or no.

But PBT does in fact resist shine better than ABS assuming the same texture mold for both keycaps. PBT as a material is objectively stronger than ABS.

Why not assign WASD to work like arrow keys when pressing CRTL? Maybe make it so you can turn it on/off when programming and when not?

You know, if you actually use your keyboard to do stuff instead of your mouse.

Ive used PBTs from Realforce, Cherry, and Vortex and they have all been a lot better feeling than and of the ABS I've used minus Cherrys doubleshots.

Go with the quickfire stealth. Ive owned a noppoo before they dont compare and I cant imagine one that costs half of the one i used would be anything near comparable to a costar built keyboard.

>> No.47562109

why did it have to be stealth

that shit is so fucking stupid

>> No.47562232

Because they have browns and you cant wear off the legends on the side from the cheap keycaps that come on the majority of stock keyboards.

>> No.47562320

I think the keycap set is called miami. Just slap those on a poker 3 keyboard and you're golden

>> No.47562642

why not? don't tell me you keep the cheap ass keycaps that come with them, do you?

>> No.47563033
