Why not use an OS that is silent by default instead of having to use wireshark (which doesn't even work as good on Windows)

HA! no.

the drive was heavily encrypted to begin with. this is just a test wipe. I suspect the drive has power issues. it keeps dropping offline once or twice a day. If it doesn't this time, then it was probably kernel related.

Gonna do a fresh os install on my desktop, need help deciding between Fedora and Debian. I'm going to use it for programming, general school stuff, and torrenting. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you actually use your lunux to get work done?

Or for atleast somewhat productive purposes, even simple things such as web browsing, checking email and media or do you just waste your time distro hopping and ricing your desktop to unusable states, and bragging about having the latest software packages you don't even use.

Lunux is too much of a hobbyist OS for man children.

I understand why there's a ton of developers who don't give a fuck about Mac (it's a dying platform with a irrelevant userbase) but why exactly would someone give a fuck about developing for Linux?
>update system libraries
>cannot compile program anymore because said version of X GNU/Linux distro has a different version of a library/dependency
>shell discrepancies between systems (eg: bashisms that don't work in /bin/sh - so if your program calls a script for some reason you have to take into account the default distro shell)
>a shit ton of different desktop environments with different functionalities and implementations
>program won't be available for every linux distro
Developing for Linux must be hell on earth.
