>>68951721
then buy topre or linear
you do need to be able to sit still for like an hour but I know that's asking a lot of someone for something they'll use for a decade

Time to build your own I guess

You can join the /mkg/ telegram group

I've got plenty of experience building keyboards, but giving people extensive advice over 4chan is a pain

Nice to see memeforce trying out new things.

Magicforce is a reputable brand, and it comes with both cherry and gaterons available. The price isn't bad either, but making a 40% that isn't fully programmable is absurd.

That one was for a friend, and is in his hands now. I'll make an ISO TKL with a wooden case next, but I also already have someone in mind for that one.

well, I have no idea what you're actually making or what there is to be so cryptic about, but it's nice to see people building their own keyboards, or rather reading their ramblings in regards to it.

I used teensy boards so far, though any arduino pro mico clone from china should do, you just need a board with an atmega32u4.

It's winter. What's the point of buying clothes in winter when you're going to wear a fat-ass coat and boots anyway. Just wait until spring comes around when you can actually enjoy wearing nice clothes again.

Making a wooden case is perfectly feasible. Pic related is my first build and the first time I worked with wood in at least five years. All I used for this was an oscillating tool and a chisel (and a hammer).

I'd almost recommend handwiring since you'll learn how a keyboard matrix works that way, but it's also a pain and quite susceptible to faults that will make shit not work and be a pain to troubleshoot. You can either get some pre-made PCB, or design your own and have it printed. Other than that, I could mill you one, I'll be starting with milling PCBs anyway quite soon and the material is dirt cheap. Though I'd say hand-wiring is still a fun experience.

Unless you have a 3D printer or a laser cutter available, I'd get a laser-cut plate somewhere that offers that kind of service.

Yeah I know. I'm thinking of using Matias QC, but then I'd have to get some nice keycaps, and the only nice keycaps that are around for alps style switches are keycaps salved from an AEK.

Given that this AEK II based build will finally be leaving my hands this weekend, I'd rather try a different aesthetic on my next build.

>>57790353
I think I'd rather get one of those chink hall effect keyboards first and tear it apart to see how exactly they did it first.

I doubt that. Part of the appeal in the HHKB is that the case (in which the switches are also mounted) are entirely made of plastic. Gives it a really nice and warm sound.

A friend of mine has pok3r. The case resonates when you hit the spacebar.

No. I took one apart some time ago. The build quality is decent, but it feels like mushy crap. The only nice thing about it is the aesthetics.
It's a shame apple can't even into good design anymore.

Either your understanding of the term "tactile feedback" is quite far off, or you're trying to sound like you know more than you do.

Reds don't have tactile feedback, anon.

How's it different from the ANSI enter key?

Sure, you're wasting some space where \ could be, but unless you hate yourself, you're going to be hitting it on the home row, where it's the closest to your pinky.

The bigass enter is like the retarded brother of ISO enter (which has terminal cancer).
